The Endocrine Pancreas (Insulin, Glucagon, and Somatostatin) | Endocrine Biology 🧪 | Biology lecture series for MCAT, DAT, NEET. The pancreas has two functions (exocrine for the digestive enzymes, and endocrine for hormonal secretions). The endocrine pancreas consists of Alpha cells (Glucagon), Beta cells (Insulin), and Delta Cells (Somatostatin).

Love this stuff. Great presentation. One question: you say that all hormones other than insulin are catabolic, but also say that Androgen/DHEA *builds* muscle and bone. That seems anabolic to me. Where is my disconnect?

Great stuff, thanks. But you lost me, not a medical student, when you came in with the words LIGAND and RECEPTOR. Is Ligand = Insulin?? And what is it that destroys it? Thanks again.
