The groundswell of support for Canadian businesses and the ‘Buy local' movement continues as the trade war with the U.S. enters its second week and heats up.

But the challenge many consumers face is figuring out what brands and products are truly Canadian, or Canadian enough.

As Global’s Anne Gaviola explains, economists and analysts highlight the importance of doing your research and caution against unintentionally hurting Canadian businesses and jobs with blind patriotism.

Forget Timmie's and McDonald's. Give your business to local independent restaurants whenever possible. Your stomach will thank you too.

In other words, we don't produce much of anything in Canada. Even the iconic Canadian brands are now owned by Americans.

It's not just "buy Canadian", it's "buy anything but American"

So long as it is NOT American, it is fine. Canadian are NOT mad at our allies or would be allies. Buy Brazilian, moroccan, Chinese, Germany, French, Italian, etc etc.

Timmy's is not Canadian. Boycott them. I remember when my mother used to say "you would not like to live in Russia Bobby" Why mom? Because in Russia you have to line up for a piece of bread. Today people have to line up for a cup of coffee at Tims. I knew the original owner. What this corporation has become is disgusting. Forced line ups by hiring too few staff make the front store look busy by creating a line and cut wage costs for the company. Result? You have to line up for a cup of coffee. I am too old to waste 15 minutes of my time waiting for a cup of coffee at Tims. Imagine thinking on your death bed of all the time you wasted at Tims waiting in line for a mediocre cup of coffee. Boycott Tims. I am pretty sure this company is American now.

Or.... Or... And hear me out.
Instead of just pushing consumerism, foreign investment, and businesses out of Canada by buying only Canadian.
Instead, while they downsize Canadian presence, we start our own small, or start up companies to provide similar products sourced, manufactured, and crafted in Canada. Which can then compete with the downsized American market if they so wish. 🤓

Buy Canadian but won't hire Canadian does this make sence

Timmy's has been low grade since 2005 when they were bought out. Every donut has so much sugar they all taste the same. The coffee is below that of McD's and that is saying something.
