The head of Border Collies is moderately wide, flat on top, and with a moderate stop. Ears may be semi-erect or dropped. The nose is black unless the coat color is liver or blue, in which case it may be liver or blue respectively. The teeth should form a scissors bite - level bite is also acceptable.

The eyes are medium in size and almond in shape; eye color varies according to coat color but merle dogs typically have blue eyes or one blue and one brown eye (a "walleye"). This breed does not do well in hot climates though but is otherwise healthy and hardy.
