My Border Collie would chase people on a bike. It got so bad I had to take his bike away.

The border collie is also extremely sensitive, and can have their spirit crushed with a hard human. That can also cause behavior issues. They are often misunderstood around other dogs, as they are not interested in them, but more interested in objects (balls, frisbees, sheep, agility, humans). Literally the best canine in the planet!

My border collie, Jess, was an amazing dog, with all of the intelligence, energy, playfulness, and loyalty they’re famous for. She was never a barker, and seemed to like everyone, even strangers. One day, when she was about 7, a workman came to the house to do some odd jobs. Jess immediately positioned herself between the man and me, keeping him about 7 feet away from me. She stood stiff, the hair along her back standing straight up, every muscle tense, while a low guttural growl seemed to fill the room. She had never acted like this. Never growled at anyone. Clearly, she sensed something in this man that I didn’t. I believed her. I told the man that I didn’t need the work done any longer, and told him to leave. For a split second it appeared he might argue or move toward me, but Jess’ growl got even more menacing and the man backed out of the house and went away. I never discovered what the problem was, what kind of trouble he might have brought, but since Jess never again behaved like that (and she lived another 10 years) I still believe she knew he had bad intentions and saved us from harm.

I have a border collie in Egypt. Yes wrong climate I know. But last night Sam started growling and ran to the bathroom door.

He started whimpering as I approached the door. I turned the light on, opened the door and there were two Scorpions on the wall.

This dog is incredible. Saved our lives last night.

I had a border collie I got for free at a feed store as a kid. That dog was so damn smart, hardly anything we 'trained' him to do was really trained, he just learned by himself by us engaging with him. He grew old while I was in college and after a few years of him losing his sight and hearing (he caught on to our hand motions as we talked all his life, so he knew what "come here" in the waving motion meant), we eventually put him down due to cancer complications. One of the saddest days of my life. Such a loyal dog and a perfect breed for families who have at least a few acres to roam. Currently I have a german shepherd, another fantastic breed in the herding group. It's not always about the breed, you got to build that connection with dogs and create that bond.

We bought a border collie 3 weeks ago. We adored him from the start. Even at 11 weeks old, he shows intelligence and lotsa love. For a 62-63 years old couple, its a bit difficult to adapt to his never ending energy and playfulness, but I'm sure the rewards will be tremendous in a few months.

My border collie is 11, he knows where I am going by what I am putting on. OMG he is so smart. He knows things before I do. Scary, and the way they look at you, they are very expressive with their eyes. Love my Dexter.

Incredible mind reader. All I have to do is "think" and she understands every thought. Gets me up at 0630 sharp, uses "little girl squeaks". to go out or come in. Barks only used to warn off intruders. Loved to be loved. Took Dixie to obedience training, and she had "sit, stand': "come", "stay", "obstacle course, " "sea/saw", "heal", after the first lesson, She simply watched the older border collies :"do their stuff" and when I took her off the leash, she had already mastered the course. Dixie is a "cow girl" with a weight ( 90 pounds - large for some border collies) to stand her authority over cows and rams. Great companion... always ready to go for a walk, a ride, wrestle, play tug of war.

I handled 2 Borders as Search & Rescue/Cadaver dogs for 22 years. Unlike other breeds that behave as robots, you can watch the Border actually figure out problems. With my first partner, Phantom, I would intentionally use a synonym that I knew he hadn't heard before. He would cock his head thinking then do the action I was speaking about! My second, Scout, alerted on a 1000-year-old human bone secreted inside a file cabinet in an office.
RIP both.

I had a poodle for 19 years. Loved her dearly! Then I got a border. Totally different dog, seriously. Borders can read you and are just too freaking intelligent.

My dog is a lab/shepherd/border collie mix and she is one of the smartest dogs I have ever been around. She learned her name immediately, potty trained herself, and learns basic commands in about 20 minutes. She picks up on everything and is friendly with pretty much everyone, loves kids, loves kitties (she grew up with 3 cats and thinks she's a kitty), and gets along with most dogs. She is the best first dog I could have ever hoped for. Border Collies & Australian Shepherds are beautiful, intelligent, special dogs.

I used to have a border collie. My parents got him when I was a baby and he passed away when I was in the forth grade. Fetch was a very hilarious and sweet dog. I'll always miss him 💙

we had border collie up until a few years ago. Awesome dog, very smart, very congenial, not that hyper. He LOVED taking baths! You had to be sure to close the bathroom door when you were bathing, or he'd jump in with you. His stomach twisted and he passed, before we could get him to the vet. Really, really miss him.
