Russia has some 100,000 troops near Ukraine - but denies planning to invade.

The tensions come eight years after Russia annexed Ukraine's southern Crimea peninsula and backed a bloody rebellion in the eastern Donbas region.

If diplomacy fails, would Ukrainians fight in a war with Russia?

I truly hope all involved can avoid a shooting war. As a veteran, I can attest to the fact that, in the case of the soldiers fighting, there are no winners or losers. Just casualties and nightmares for decades to come.

My father visited Ukraine and he told me how friendly the people were there compared to other eastern/slavic european countries he had visited and how beautiful the country was with great landscapes and beautiful nature. Makes me also want to travel there in the near future. /Greetings from Sweden, stay strong Ukraine.

EDIT: I wanna share some background info because I've seen some mixed comments regarding slavs and I just want to say that I used to travel with my father as a kid to many differnet countries back in the early 2000s. Poland was a country with a lot of friendly people and families who even let us sleep at their house as a sign of good gesture. My father was recently in Poland last year and when he came back he told me that it's not the same Poland we were used to back then and that the people now overall has become more hostile to foreigners & tourists and I think that's a shame because i have great memories of Poland as a kid. He was very satisfied with Ukraine though.

I don’t believe that still in the 21st century, we could be confronting a war situation in the Black Sea area. The politics of conflict must be eliminated in human societies. I pray for the Ukrainian people and innocent people of Russia as well as a peaceful settlement of two countries involved.

If the war in Ukraine really breaks out, no matter by which side it was provoked, I can guarantee my European neighbors and brothers that it will not remain only with Ukraine, this will be a spreading European conflict if not even the 3rd World War.

We have had too many wars on European soil and too much suffering from them.

I hope that it is not too late to de-escalate and defuse this situation.
