For anyone wondering the real reason why you don't want to rest your hands-on the handles is because you burn a lot less calorie to that way since you don't have to support your whole bodyweight. Hope that clears things up.

I tried the stair master once and I was constantly looking down to make sure I didn't trip on the step folding out. If they were just a few stairs bigger, I'd be fine, but you have to stay exactly in the middle or you fall on your arse.

Resting your hands/arms on the machine makes it significantly easier.

When I put it at 15 on the speed I gotta hold the handles I do it for 2 minutes straight. Take 30 second brake an repeat for at least 3-6 sets on Leg day. Then go to the bike afterwards for about 10-15 minutes

Ive been telling people this for years. No one realizes how much of a training wheel it is to rest your body on the handles. Almost defeats the purpose if you can do them without the handles.
