Taxes will likely be raised in the Budget, Rachel Reeves has said.

The Chancellor said Labour would stick to its election manifesto promises not to raise national insurance, income tax or VAT, but left open the possibility for other tax hikes at the Budget on October 30.

British economist Sir Andrew Dilnot has suggested Rachel Reeves should make pensioners pay national insurance to help cover the spiralling cost of social care.

Sir Andrew said it was “not unreasonable to expect older people as well as younger people to make a contribution”.

Working pensioners already pay tax. This is nothing to do with paying for social care. It is all about getting money in to fund the asylum seekers living expenses. I note there is no mention of cutting the MPs fuel allowance.
