K, W, N, and A are also used for Amateur communication, depending on the license class.

It stands for North America, since everyone else in the continent will be pissed if they used A for America probably they choose the N as the propose of Benjamin Franklin of naming the country "United States of North America" and since in NA there is only USA, Canada and Mexico and Canada does not care, it would leave a nice option

The N is for Navy. They were the first ones to use planes in the US and they didn’t envision that aircraft would become as readily accessible as they are today.

“North America”. Idk if that’s correct, but that’s what I head on an airport tour. And as a student pilot I don’t really care, as long as Atc understands what I’m saying I’m happy as a clam

Adding on to the end, our registration numbers, N numbers, also serve as our radio station codes, since majority of aircraft have radio. Weirdly, airports still have the K codes, KDEN, KLNK.

It's easy. K is for every station Kwest of the Mississippi river, and W is for any station Weast of the Mississippi.

American aircraft registrations start with N because it’s part of the international system established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Each country is assigned a letter or a set of letters to identify its aircraft. N was assigned to the United States in the early 20th century, and it's been used ever since. The full registration includes a combination of the N followed by a unique series of numbers or letters to identify individual planes.
