My favorite is when airlines organize their aircraft registrations according to type, such as prefix 77 for a Boeing 777 or prefix 32 for an Airbus A320 for example.

I think the best registrations were Corsair's 747s : F-HSEA, F-HSEX and F-HSUN (from a Serge Gainsbourg song) and then F-HKIS and F-HLOV

Hi DJ, In the Philippines we have rules for it.

RP-C For general aviation and commerical airliners (also helicopters)
RP-G Gliders fully complying with CAAP
RP-R Limited respect with airworthiness requirments
RP-X Philippine testing aircraft (for now none)
RP-S Non type certificated aircraft (we still dont know why this is in the law)

Ex. RP-C3438
RP-G671
RP-R716
RP-X779
RP-S5152

(note: i dont know if this is real aircraft registrations but this is just an example)

Many American carriers do number grouping for a family of aircraft. For example, FedEx with their MD-11’s do it with N- followed by a 600 number and FE. Their 757s are N-700 or 900 number ending with FE or FD. If I had the chance to run my own airline, I would keep up that idea.

I think WOW Air takes the cake for having some of the funniest registrations I’ve ever seen

Here in Saudi Arabia it’s HZ- for Hejaz the old name for the western area of Saudi Arabia the next letter is for the the airline A the first letter is for Saudia which is the first airline in the country and was the only one in the country flynas’s has cayman island registered planes but for its Saudi registered planes it’s N for its original name nas airlines and flyadeal is F
But let’s continue with Saudia the next letter is for the aircraft family S is for the 320 family q for the 330 family k for 777s and r for 787s after that it doesn’t have that much of a meaning it’s just for its place so the third a320 is HZ-ASC but one thing is that only the 777-200ER has the letters the 777-300ER starts with HZ-AK11 and the 787s started with letters but switched before Z to numbers
