On Thursday, former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison after being convicted of several felony charges in an election computer breach case. After that sentence is complete, she will serve six months in jail, for a total of nine years behind bars.

"Your lies are well documented, and these convictions are serious," 21st Judicial District Judge Matthew Barrett told Peters at her sentencing. "I'm convinced you would do it all over again if you could. You're as defiant as a defendant as this court has ever seen."

Ms Peters casually said she did it and had absolutely no regrets about it . She violated her oath of office and honestly thought she would get away with it . She basically set up and gave herself her own sentence standing in front of the judge with a 40 minute presentation as to why she should not be allowed to go to prison . It didn’t work .

This is the most satisfying courtroom moment I've seen in a bit.

Bernie Madoff and Martha Stewart went to prison on non violent crimes, same way as people caught with marijuana have gone to prison. Enough of leniency to criminals. Bravo judge.

She'll be 71 when she gets out. Or she may die in prison long before.

Tina laughed at a reporter this morning saying
there is NO WAY I will be going to prison.

She earned her sentence. No make up, no designer clothes…she will age fast in prison. Thanks to the judge. He saw through her. Hope others will take heed.💙🇺🇸

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the judge’s detailed and extensive rebuke of Tina Peters. I wish we had principled judges like him in Texas.

In other countries you’d get a lot worse than jail for this treason 💯

This report skipped the part where the judge also said that if released she would be likely to reoffend.

There is no way I'm loyal to someone this far.

So let me get this straight. During the sentencing hearing, she kept presenting evidence as to why she was found guilty in the first place? I have heard of people daring judges during sentencing, but they themselves didn’t present a PowerPoint presentation as to why they should be sent away. I can’t believe that this waste of space did that to herself.

Listen to the sentencing in its entirety. Judge ABSOLUTELY WENT IN on that woman.
He compared every day citizens in that seat to her and her four lawyers, and assistants, and flying across the country in private jets.
Privileged. Absolutely privileged.
His words, not mine.
