Hello Bobby, I’m a freelance amateur photographer and I upgraded my Mac to M3 15 Air from a 2013 MacBook Pro( intel i5, 8 GB RAM, and 256 SSD).
I have been using wedding and portrait editing for the last decade on that machine. It’s like a ROACH that never dies😂 . The only reason I was planning to upgrade was because most of the editing software uses advanced AI nowadays so I needed a modern chip-based laptop. Thus I went for M3-15 inch with 16G &512 SSD. ( 1699 @ Apple Store but Amazon had a sale last week so I got it for 1499$) I was confused if I made the mistake of getting the air instead of the pro. I’m planning to use Davinci Resolve for iPhone videos or Fuji XT5 Videos. After watching countless comparison videos, I found your explanation video gave l me so much satisfaction on my purchase. I hope I won’t need a pro for the next few years

Hobbyist photographer here (also in Singapore) and decided to go for the M3 Air decked out. The size alone was a factor in my decision and I’m coming from a 2017 MacBook Pro which has the same screen as this air. I doubt I will notice the difference. I also run an M2 iPad Pro for my editing which has done me wonders for travelling. I suspect this would be even better.

This is not a review. This is next level tech consumer education! Thanks a lot!

Thank you for the information. I do have the same configuration 24 gigs and 2 TB hard drive and thank you for the video. I’m new to your channel. I like what you said although yeah better systems are more money. I do plan on holding my system for a very long time, and I like the efficiency of the system, so I do thank you again for the video and for respecting out your computer lotta people want to save money, but sometimes it cost more money because when you have to reinvest it into another system it’ll cost you more than if you bought a fully loaded system upfront.

Hope this message finds you well and hopefully you’ll make more videos on that laptop .

Oh yeah and the other thing is I went out with the 15 inch. I didn’t go with the 13 inch. I have the 15 inch display

Thanks for this video! I've been needing to see this discussed from a photography perspective. I have an M1 Macbook Pro and it still is more than enough but I would like a bigger screen and lighter laptop and was think about the 15" M3 Macbpok Air.

Great vid as usual Bobby.
I’m getting the 15” M3Air for photos editing to replace my i7 16” MBP.
More portable. Longer battery live and matches my iP15! Haha.

Dear Bobby, my m2 16 gb 1tb doesn’t sweat neither on third party photo editing softwares nor on fcpx on whatever I throw at him. By the way merhaba is in turkish where I am watching you from😊 take care

I can't say all Costco's have this sale but I bought this yesterday on sale at the Anchorage Costco for $1449.00. sale ends tomorrow (8/25/2024)so for the 90 day return policy I went for it. Primarily for Photo Hobbyist coffee shop and vacation edits using LRC/PS and Luminar Neo. I hope it's everything and more for my needs.

I just bought an M2 air with 16 gig. Then I watched this video. I'm not even going to pick it up tomorrow. I'll wait for the M3 24 1 TB to be shipped in May.

I don't really know what to choose.
the MacBook M3 Air 16GB/512GB (€1, 760) or the MacBook M3 Pro 8GB/512GB (€1, 850). I would mainly use it to edit photos on photoschop. the better screen quality and SD card slot on the PRO model is a big advantage for me. Or am I better off with the Air M3 16GB/512GB because it has more RAM? I use a Nikon D750 and edit an average of 500 photos per year. So not a heavy user I guess?

Informative video Bobby. Great presentation too.

I compared the Air to Pro in store with the inbuilt photos app. Colours looked pretty much identical on either screen when comparing the same stock photos.

How would you compare the screens if you had to rely on just the inbuilt monitor? I see the Pro had specific photo and video calibration presets.

I’m shooting with the original Fuji X100, an iPhone 14 Pro and on 35mm film so power isn’t the issue - but I’d like an accurate screen and no banding when editing.

I have an M1 16" Pro and was looking to mainly save weight (the 16" Pro is very heavy) and get the 15" M3 Air. Apple only offered me $1500 on my $4500+ machine! So I will eventually get a large screen MBAir, it's just when? M4, M5? If 13" or 14" then a pro sounds the right move like you say. For me, weight savings and large screen is my major emphasis even though my M1 processes 60 and 100MP images with C1 and PS just fine. As an aside I also have an M2 13" Air (mainly for non-photo purposes, but I do process photos via C1 from time to time) and notice how much faster it processes 60MP files than my M1 Pro.

Thanks for the very nice and interesting review... I'm using more or less the same big files (raw about 80 mb and Tiff around 200 mb) as the medium format Fuji. Did you tried to edit in LR or any similar software a bunch of 50-100 images without problem with the Air M3? I really would go for it to replace my pro from 2018 which doesn't manage so well now with such big files. Thank for the answer.

Hi, awesome video!! I want an M3 air and was wondering if 16 gigs of ram and 256GB would suffice for editing with adobe premiere pro? I was also considering 24 gigs of ram but not sure what’s best. Thank you and have a good day!

Are there any overheating issues with the Air?

do you think the m3 macbook air 2024 - with 24gb ram - would be great for DJ software? serato? virtual dj? or would you suggest getting a m1 or m2 macbook pro? the m3 macbook pro is not in my budget.
