How To Downshift In A Manual Car-Standard Driving Tutorial

This is a tutorial that shows you how to downshift in a manual car. It is a BASIC downshifting tutorial, and is meant for people that are beginning to learn to drive standard, and want to know how to downshift. It does not cover any advanced downshifting techniques, like revmatching, but I will definitely cover them in future videos!

I'm actually just got my manual car got the hang of everything but downshifting I looked at other videos but they emphasize on Rev matching obviously I don't have the skill for that yet but this tutorial just made me downshift smoothly on my first tries very awesome video thanks man!

I always get nervous once I start feeling the clutch press upwards and release it too fast, so the car starts rocking. What an awful feeling.

Thanks dude. I've been driving manual about 2 weeks now and my down shifts were jerky unless I guessed the proper speed with brake on my speedometer. Can't wait to try this tomorrow. Love my 06 lancer!!!

Helpful video! New stick shift learner here. My car has an auto rev match feature, so I don't need to blip the throttle. However, when I downshift, say, from third to second, the tach needle jumps almost to redline, and the engine makes an awful sound. Clearly, the rev match feature doesn't compensate for poor driving technique. I didn't know what I was doing wrong, but now I know I've been letting off the clutch too fast. Thank you for this video, I'll be careful now and release the clutch much more slowly.
