Great video! I should have looked before drilling to see if I even had 3/8 inches of steel or more. I needed to drill my holes at 1/4. So I clamped the bracket to the lip from the bottom. Drilled through both the bracket then hood to line things up. Used smaller screws but 5 on each side.

I'm building a 54 2 door post car and this is going to be very helpful. I just pulled my hood to start the engine swap.

Hey Tom, thanks for sharing. I followed your guide and bought the same kit from Amazon. However, my results are nowhere near as good as yours. My hood will only open about halfway, even though the struts could expand more. It's almost like the hood is too heavy for the struts.

Hello Tom, I've been trying to figure a way to do away with the garage door springs myself. Thank you for showing all of us hot rudders how to install those struts. Would you happen to have the link to the kit you bought. Thank you again. Great work.

Hi Tom thank you for taking the time to make this video . I have watched several videos on how to do these hood struts on a 49 to 54 Chevy. Funny thing is none of them show the 5/16 hole being drilled in the hinge. Did you remove the hinge before drilling ?
on my 54 the location is awful close to the top of my fender scares the hell out of me can you maybe give me some advice on that?

Hello Tom, great video, will have to try on my 52 2 door BelAir.
Was also wondering, I have some s10 wheels like yours. Did you end up using spacers to allow those to fit. They have a large offset. I have a Nova rear and mustang II front.

Thanks

Curious I wonder if you application would work on a 47-48 Chevy Hood. I've been trying to come up with something .

I just replaced my springs and they suck. Can you post a picture of where you mounted the bracket to the hood, showing both bolts?

What is the pound rating for the struts? I am going to do this on a 1942 Oldsmobile and the hood is about 6" longer than your Chevy.
