The attack that he jumps off in the air, while spin crossing the arena, while you have to pay attention to his horse, repeating two times, is one of the sickiest moves in the game.

This dlc made soo many people abandon their fashion cause of how hard the enemies hit 😭

This dude is how I got into really learning the Deflecting Hardtear! Parrying boss attacks just like in Sekiro is a blast, alongside learning the openings to actually the use the guard counter, turns it into a whole different game. Outstanding boss in presentation alone as well. Great dude all around, even if he’s a bit silly looking (Though that’s a plus in my book)

Anyone needs a guide here it is.

For the first phase, pay close attention to cleaver since his attacks are a little delayed . After 2 cleaver slams, you can get a hit in after he finishes the combo.

For the cleaver spin, just run into him and dodge and run towards before he performs another chain and dodge then right as the horse runs into you dodge, then dodge again while running into him or towards him, after he is fully done with chain you can get a 2-1 hits in.

Second phase just jump to avoid the fire.

RInse and repeat.

insanely fun boss, once you realize how to dodge the super long combo it becomes much easier. very satisfying to jump those flames as well. really enjoyed this one! definitely a breath of slightly fresher air compared to lion dancer and rellana imo.

This design is amazing, such Bloodborne boss design vibes and yet very unique/different and Elden Ring like. Great job as always!

This is probably my favourite fight in the entire game, not just the DLC. I beat him yesterday and I can't stop thinking about how I just want to fight him again. His fight is like a dance once you get the timing down.

When I saw how the thing got back on its horse, all I could think of was the frog riding unicycle gif

This dude's honestly pretty fun if you force him to cooperate. The best way I've found is to always try to dodge to his non-dominant side (his left, your right), as he does the double ground slam attack after quite a few of his combos if you're on that side. This is the best moment to attack him (you can get a fully charged heavy attack if you start it right after dodging), and if you do this, you'll more often than not stay close enough to him so he chooses to do another combo instead of running away. ALWAYS be close to him. The fire attack is easily solved by jumping. You can watch the grey blobs to see which one he's doing; if it starts close to him, jump forward, and if it starts away from him, jump backward using the ring of fire in your line of sight as a guide. It's kinda pointless to attack him without him attacking first, so it ends up being pretty rhythmic if you do it right!

Idk how I felt about this fight first time I beat it, but I think I can say now it’s def one of the dlc’s best. The delayed attacks, long combos, and hefty damage are thankfully balanced by the boss not having as much health as others. And all of his attacks can be reliably dodged so it doesn’t feel like I’m taking hits that aren’t my fault. Like the attacks where he dismounts his horse and both of them start attacking you in a string, as well as the attacks where you’re required to jump over the blue ghostflame are a lot of fun to get down right. Also the visual design of the boss itself and the MUSIC man it’s wonderful. It really does feel like a somber fight of tragedy.

This was the most manageable boss I've faced so far.

Something that worked wonders was rot, wait for the triple charge whirlwind attack and then fire off a full rot breath at him (I'm using regular rotten breath not the special version, more range and whatnot).
It always resulted in me taking a hit but also resulted in a rot proc if the full attack lands making tanking worth it.
He has some other exploitable attacks like his relatively common vertical smash into low sweep, dodge the smash then jump over the sweep for a hit. Can do the same for his boomerang attack if you're close and he goes for the low sweep after etc.

Finding out that i could jump over his fire attacks was also really helpful.

Lastly he seens to have a weakness to lightning when i hit him with a few spears, the arena has water so kinda makes sense, if you have lightning spells or weapons they may make the fight easier as well.

Hope any of this was helpful? Happy hunting!

So is this like a reference to the origin of the Elden Beast (given the way this boss head tilts and how he swims through the water)? I recall reading or hearing somewhere that the Elden Beast is a construct of fallen runes. It seems similar to this guy, whom is actually a large clump of dead bodies that make up his existence. It drank nectar from Saint Trina putting it to rest, that way, Saint Trina can control it making it her knight. So really, it's just embodying her will, not really doing anything out of its own. I think that is similar to the Elden Beast, just being a vessel/knight for The Greater Will.

I also noticed that anything in Elden Ring that is water related is a gateway to the dead. So that could further support the idea that both the Elden Beast and Putrescent Knight are both dead resurrections. I also noticed that the weapons they carry embody the order they serve. The Greater Will/Marika stood for duality, thus way the Elden Beast wields a double helix sword. The Putrescent Knight wields a moon crescent blade, which I believe the moon has a lot to do with sleep/rest (which is saint Trina's specialty).

Perhaps if Saint Trina was still functional, The Putrescent Knight would have become her version of the Elden Beast? The area is surrounded by Lily flowers, which was Saint Trina's main medium of contact. Just like the Elden Beast area is surrounded by Erd Trees, which was the Greater Will's/Marika's main point of contact.

Also, given what was mentioned about water and death, we saw how Godwyn adapted by growing fish legs when he was sentence to a life in death. We know that can only happen when a being is a body without a soul, and we see two other examples of beings composed of only a body and no soul (Elden Beast and Putrescent Knight being amalgamation of the fallen). We see that the Elden Beast adapted to the water by growing fish/mermaid legs like Godwyn, I think it was just a matter of process that The Putrescent Knight would eventually do the same.
