Worst YA book I’ve read: After by Anna Todd. I don’t even know why this book (trilogy 😱 .. I mean really?) exists... why are we telling our girls this kind of abusive behavior is “romance”? And don’t get me started with the fact that now it’s a f*$king movie...

The mortal instruments also has the same issue - petite, clumsy, pretty girl that turns out to be special and more powerful than other characters 🙄

I’m still not over, that someone sat down and thought: “You know what my main romance needs? The characters thinking they are siblings!” And then wrote it AND THE BOOK WENT THROUGH THE WHOLE EDITING PROCESS WITHOUT ANYBODY MANAGING TO CONVINCE HER, THAT NO, IT IS A 100% BAD IDEA!

The incest part of the mortal instruments series was truly disturbing, and I will never understand why not only was it included in the books, but that it lasted for as long as it did.

So when are you reading the second Mary Dyer book?

Is it weird to say that I've read The Mortal Instruments just because of characters who are not the main ones? I am not a Clary/Jace fan, but I love other characters like Magnus, Alec, and Izzy, and I've read the books because of them mostly.

Now kids. Let's learn this lesson: just because its "representation", doesn't mean it'll be good. Lol

I totally get the idea that YA has lost it's appeal as I got older. I have such a hard time picking them up and getting into them now.

Oh my goodness—the only thing I remember about Fangirl is that I read it when I was in college and it takes place AT THE COLLEGE I WENT TO! I’ve never actually read a book where I’ve been to the actual places in that way, so some of the descriptions of the places were fun because I knew the area that they were talking about! I also remember being disappointed when they mentioned HP because it was clearly a riff on HP and that just kind of took me out 🤷🏻‍♀️ I overall thought it was okay though!

Throne of Glass taught me a valuable lesson about not buying a whole series before you even read the first book. I was so sure it was going to be good lol. Turns out that Celeana is the epitome of every trope I hate 🤷. Plus, booktube led me to believe that TOG was like Game of Thrones but YA. Not even close.

***Edit: Actually, I only bought the first 4 books, but still, I felt like Booboo the fool after I finished the first one

I have a love-hate relationship with everything Sarah J. Maas

I completely binge read Throne of Glass and ACOTAR but I totally see why people don’t like them 😂 tbh I’m not all that sure why I did 😂

Eragon did not become the "best" untill book 4....He was special because he had a dragon. Many characters are actuelly smarter and/or stronger then he is.

Totally agree with you on ‘when dimple met rishi’. As a female programmer I was so excited to have a protagonist I could relate to in that aspect. And despite it being set at a coding camp, I think the whole coding aspect really gets pushed under the rug which really disappointed me

For fangirl—the guy was described in this really weird way that made me think he was greasy and gross?? Plus I absolutely hated how the main character was so deadset on writing fanfiction and couldn’t for some reason adapt for her degree Her professor was like pls u can do it and she was like nooo here’s some fanfiction instead

I agree about The Mortal Instruments. I read the first three books and I was wondering, ‘Why do people ship these two so much? 🤢’.
