"we made the decision to get the GBI involved" ONLY BECAUSE THE FOOTAGE WAS RELEASED. Imagine if this never was released, it would have just gone right under the rug as it did for the last year. This whole line of command at the Sheriff's office needs removal. Every supervisor who was aware and failed to escalate doesn't deserve the taxpayer paychecks they cash.

You didnt mention how they dropped the charges but when the victim filed a lawsuit they charged him again. How disgusting

Not only did they try to cover this up, but once Canaris filed suit, the county recharged him with a crime they'd already dropped due to insufficient evidence.
Malicious prosecution on top of all the other constitutional violations.

several points to be made about this case: this guy had headphones on when the deputy confronted him. he was on his way to work. he broke his collar bone and fractured his skull because he didnt want to cuff up most importantly there were no break-ins! i would be interested to know if there was in fact a complaining party.

0:42 " Before you go to the ground, take your backpack off" Sounds like he was planning to pile drive him from the start. How disgusting

They didn't mention the victim had a broken collar bone and a cracked skull. I hope the lawsuit gets him millions.

It's fascinating how the police know how to recognize a criminal just by the color of his skin or by the clothes he's wearing, but when they show a video of a policeman physically attacking a civilian, then a case investigation team is needed.

Just so everyone knows, they initially dropped all charges but in retaliatory state style, they reinstated them once they found out he was suing them.

The fact that even with the video evidence the police officer gets to keep his job and getting paid while they "Investigate". Insane.

Tyler Canaris suffered a left clavicle fracture.skull fractured. Ruptured an eardrum, concussion, traumatic brain injury.
This was a heartless attack.

The spokesperson stands in front of a sign that reads: "Core values: Respect - Fairness - Integrity - Professionalism". The cop in the video and the spokesperson show none of these core values. And then the weasel declines to "elaborate" because of "an ongoing investigation". I hope the victim sues and wins a massive lawsuit - I'll volunteer to be on the jury

The news here didnt even report his injuries. He had a broken collar bone, fractured skull, & suffered a concussion. HE SPENT 9 DAYS IN THE HOSPITAL!! This is attempted murder!

The fact that this occurred in March and is only now being reviewed because it was posted online shows how little this department is concerned about people. Every arrest that results in someone having serious injuries should be reviewed immediately. It makes me wonder if they didn't or if they did and just didn't think anything was wrong and now they're doing it to cover themselves.

That psychotic tyrant is a danger to the public. He should be jailed!Hope the guy sues him and the department!

That qualifies as felony assault and he could have paralyzed the man for life. If me or you do this, we get taken to jail immediately. The cop gets desk duty and still gets paid.

Sheriff is a coward for not immediately firing and arresting the deputy!

This happened a YEAR AGO! They tried to cover it up, and then when the cat gets let out of the bag, NOW they take action. Disgusting and shameful. And then they are incredulous as to why people don't like and don't trust the police or the justice system.

Just imagine going home from work and all of a sudden, you end up with head trauma for life and criminal charges.
