Whenever I think of gliders, I think of the d-day invasion and how it must have felt being in those huge gliders, without power, trying to find a small piece of land to land in.

I went up in a two seater in the Alps in Germany. Scary at first but really thrilling too. What a great hobby.

There’s something so satisfying about the gauge panel.

Classical Astir. Wailing like a siren and no matter how much left rudder you give, the yawstring points to the right. Love this plane <3

I love how similar but different every instrument in a glider is. They look more organic and based on feel. From the snake shape airspeed, the lift buzzer (I would swap it with an otomatone), to the slip stream yarn.

Thanks for making that easy, I understood everything you said about gliders. At least the basics.

I had a lesson in a glider. Not as techy as this. There's the piece of string on the windshield for wind direction and a spooky hooty thing that changes pitch when climbing and decending and watching for birds in thermals. Also a couple of guages that we never used.

I can’t change my music while driving but this guy can fly and record and teach all at once

This just gave me so much nostalgia of going gliding with my dad as junior member at lasham. Found my log book the other day. Some of the best sundays ever !!

Thats looks awfully familiar to the one we owned at Wagga Gliding Club in years gone by.
VH-IKS, also an Astir. Must have been part of a group purchased and registered around the same time when they arrived into Australia.
Always wondered how its "sister" aircraft were going.
Good to see shes still getting up there!!!

I love that the airspeed indicator is a little swirl like when you are catching air and climbing in a glider

Must be so nice to only hear the wind rushing by no engine sounds

Maintaining altitude, looks like something I could put in the bucket list 😊
