Not only one of the greatsst songs ever, but one of the most exciting, anticipation-building intros of all time! It’s such a expertly crafted build, with the intermittent drum fills slowly coming to life like this huge, magnificent machine is about to awaken after lying asleep for 1, 000 years… and then Mark’s half-cocked wah riff with its glorious harmonics. In my opinion, on every album made with Dire Straits and as a solo artist, Mark Knopfler takes the listener on an journey, full of wit, sometimes satire, love and also melancholy. There is a great deal of reflection, Mark being a phenomenal observer and interpretor of whatever is going on around him or wherever he is looking. For me, the music and lyrics are unique and masterful. Whilst many rightfully acknowledge and focus on his brilliant technical ability as a musician, his writing and lyricism sometimes is ignored, which is a great shame, since Mark Knopfler is a fantastic and conscientious storyteller, deserving every music prize there is out there ❤✍️ 🎸 🎶 // Carin in Sweden
