AQA GCSE PE: The Mechanics Of Breathing | The Role Of The Intercostal Muscles, Ribs & Diaphragm | AQA Paper 1
This video will help you understand the mechanics of breathing and the role the intercostal muscles, ribs and diaphragm play in breathing. It is in hope that this video will help strengthen and consolidate your understanding, which will prove pivotal during your paper 1 examination.
You need to understand the following:
Inhaling (at rest) with reference to the roles of the:
• intercostals
• rib cage
• diaphragm
Exhaling (at rest) with reference to the roles of the:
• intercostals
• rib cage
• diaphragm
You also need to be familiar with changes in air pressure, as well as the muscles that play an influential role in breathing during exercise.
