Monoprice Mini Case Fan Replacement.

Noctua 40x10mm Fan 12v NF-A4x10 FLX

This weekend I heard a horrible noise coming out of my 3d printer, it was the case fan of the Monoprice Mini Select that was screaming for retirement. So I had to do another video about replacing the internal fan on the Mini.

Hi, I'm Frank my channel is all about 3D printing. I can't get enough of my 3D printer. I make everything and anything out of 3D filament (PLA, PETG and more). As I say a printer that is not printing is a missed opportunity.

I'll be doing electronics, mechanics, computer engineering, DIY, reviews and tutorials.

I update twice a week on Tuesday and Saturdays.

Thanks so much for this. I have zero experience with electronics but since you made it look so easy, I bought a soldering iron and some heat shrink tubing and now have my little monoprice mini back up and running. Great tutorial!

Followed your advice to get the Noctua fans placed on my Monoprice Mini. Replaced both fans in one evening, ABSOLUTELY NO REGRETS! It's just like I bought an entirely different printer now! Just now running some test prints to see if the lower vibrations will now improve the print quality. You have now totally sold me on Noctua as a new supplier for cooling fans and heat sinks!!!

Hi Frank...well, an update on my little mini. I had to rewire the fan and while I was at it, I rewired the heated bed. Both projects went great...I followed your vids and had no problems, other than soldering those stupidly small wires, but it works great now. Its ironic that my mp mini is currently printing parts for my cr10s which broke a fan blade, so I'm waiting for parts from amazon so I can fix it. Thanks again for all the great videos and help, Richard Jackson

Awesome video!
I replaced mine as soon as it came (mp select v3/pro) and it's a huge difference

Do you think the case will also hold a 40x20 noctua fan?

Thanks for the helpful and really well made video!

Good choice on the fan, I've been using Noctua fans on my Printrbot and will be replacing the stock fans on my CR-10S very soon, that thing is loud!

The casefan on my V2 printer appears to be blowing air in through the fan, across the pcb and out of the bottom. So I oriented the fan (Noctua A4x10 FLX) that way. For the connection I put the 3 pin connector from the fan into the 2-wire OmniJoin cable that came with the fan. Next I used the orange cable connectors supplied with the noctua fan to connect the OmniJoin-wires to the original fan wire connected to the pcb. At first the fan didn't start but when I tested the wires apparently one of the orange cable connectors didn't make a good connection so I decided to solder the connection between the OmniJoin and the pcb wires. The fan itself still has the original 3 wire plug for warranty. Now it's running smoothly and quietly, a huge improvement.

My advice, don't use the supplied cable connectors from the noctua fan.

Great video! I have the black version of the Monoprice Mini, and the screws that come with the new fan wont fit like they do in this video. Any suggestions on what to do?

Hi Frank, I need some of your excellent advice on a problem. I'm printing on the mini and it seems to only print half of the print and the extruder motor skips when its on the side of the print closest to the tower. When it does the other side of the print, it seems to lay down the filament fine with no extruder skipping or popping. I'm getting ready to tear down the extruder and check the gear to make sure its not clogged. I'm using pla plus from esun and I haven't had any problems with the filament in the past. The hotend seems to extrude ok, but I have heard a couple of extruder skips after it extrudes probably around 60mm of filament. Would you have any advice as to what I can check next? Thanks, Richard Jackson

is there a reason you went with the NF-A4x10 instead of the NF-A4x20?
I see a lot of people talking about the 20

Is it supposed to be pushing air in and cooling the electronics? Or is it supposed to be pushing air to the outside?

Should the fan be on the entire time the printer is on? Mine doesn't seem to turn on at all after replacing the stock case fan. And my wiring appears to work as I plugged it into the hotend slot and it starts if i use 100% speed

I'm going to try this on my Mini Pro, as the rear fan makes way more noise than the one on the print head.

What size and voltage is the fan? There’s no link to it in the description
