Both Sonic forces and Shadow Generations run on HE2, yet they're both VERY different in therms of quality and polishing

The fact this still looks fun in Forces is evidence that the physics were never the main problem, it’s the level design

The new HE2 games honestly dropped the ball when it came to gameplay. No short hop, no air dash, NO DRIFT, there’s less nuance with Sonic’s controls tbh

I think with some lighting fixes and a faster moving 2D section Sonic for Modern, and just a overall rework of Classic Sonic, this could be extremely good. It makes me wonder what Sonic X Shadow Generations could have been like if they used Hedgehog Engine 2 for both sides of Generations.

If there’s something I do like about Forces…

It’s modern Sonic’s homing attack trail. Looks way cooler than bland white speed lines.

This just goes to show that the physics were not the main problem of Forces, it was the short level design. While the physics could've been touched up a bit more, I feel like this level(Sky Sanctuary) looks more fun in Forces than Generations(same thing with Crisis City). Although not Green Hill and Chemical Plant in Forces.

I do think if more Sonic games had SXSGenerations style levels they'd be good, however I'd also like to see someone try to make a physics mod that better replicates HE1's physics because HE2 feels a bit too tight to me. I like a little bit of looseness in the controls, as it actually feels like you're accelerating/decelerating naturally instead of instantly going full speed or stopping

That forces air boost. Also sonic feels slower. Well sonic is way slower in forces.

if sonic generations was in HE2 it would:
have worse animations + physics
no drift
too much graphical bloom & look visually worse + inferior boost effect
bad level design & reused assets

Hope Sega or Sonic team work on another engine in other future projects. They should’ve stick with HE1 cuz the gameplay was much faster and fluent like Unleashed and Generations. HE2 feels very stiff.

Sonic Forces is better than Sonic Generations. Sonic Generations is overrated.
