I love Jacob Collier's division of minor 3rd interval into 4 or 5 equal steps and still makel it musically beautiful.

Guitar: Adjustable microtonal guitar designed by Tolgahan Çoğulu in 2008.

He made me lose my ear pitch for a few moments, I’m on my piano trying to get it back again

Last notes a little harsh but great visual. Collier is my favorite, also king gizzard which is pretty ironic considering they are pioneering microtones for western music

Jacob: "...you erase all idea of, like, notatable harmony..."
Primary school kids: "we just wanted to learn some Christmas songs" 😐

What’s funny about this is that singers did this all the time before pitch correction. You listen to Billie Holiday or Ella Fitzgerald, and a bunch of their vocal melodies are like this. Is it “microtonal, ” or is it just natural/how humans move between pitches?

Dua Lipa’s main hook on Good In Bed is a microtonal descent which is kinda fun, drops 5 notes where only 4 should fit

This is an amazing ear exercise to do this with any nite on your guitar, I did it for a few weeks and finding pitches and chord is sooo much easier now.

I sometimes do this kind of thing on my cello. At last a little advantage of having a fretless instrument 😉

That's so cool. I've played a little with this with bends on the guitar, like fitting 3 equaly spaced notes in a 2 semitones bend. It's a subtle microtonal touch than can be sound interesting.

I’ve heard music that use microtones and every time i try to imitate a descending 4 or 5 type of sound like here, but i would always miss a note and was always confused on why that note was missing. i now understand

Sevish makes some awesome microtonal stuff if you're interested in exploring. I'd say that "Gleam" is by far their most approachable song but personally "Droplet" is my favorite

What surprises me is I can whistle or hum these microtones and they feel completely natural and harmonic. I never knew this! I thought microtonality would necessarily sound weird and experimental.

🤯🤯🤯
This is the first time I've ever seen this... harkens back to ye olde frets that went completely around the neck and moved/tuned to whatever/whoever you were working with or whatever piece was being played...
