I had a female dachshund for 13 years. She was the most precious pet I've ever had! She's been gone for 21/2 years now and not a day goes by without my thoughts and memories going to her! I miss her so much! I have pictures of her everywhere! She once mothered ("nursed" a kitten until the kitten was as big as she was! My beautiful Gracie!

I've had both. My female is the one that constantly barks at the least little thing. She is very sweet and so is our male. Can't tell much difference in the personality. She is more cuddly than our male and loves to dig constantly. Holes 2 ft deep all the time. Cannot seem to break her from the digging and barking at nothing. Think it depends on how the puppy was raised untill it goes to its final home. Don't follow what is being told here. The puppy usually will pick its owner. Every one we have got have picked us. I've had 3 short haired and have 2 long haired right now. Just watch them play as puppies and see how they react to u watching them. They will crawl all over u if they like and trust u. I personally like the short haired dashounds better. Ours were smarter and less barking about nothing. I've had female and males in both short haired and long haired dogs. The mini dashounds do not have as many back problems if you do NOT OVER FEED THEM. Keep their diets on good food and not so many treats etc. Very little table food is so much better. A few green beans, carrots etc. No meat, especially NO PORK, IS BETTER FOR THEM. No chocolate etc. No raisins etc. Let them run around to get rid of their energy. They r wonderful pets and very loving if u socialize them around a lot of ppl. If no socializing, they can be snippy and hateful to others!

I adopted a mini male ween and he the best dog. Just over 1 yr, velcro dog, complete goofball, cuddle pup and he was very easy to train. I feel blessed to have such a great joy in our lives!!

Hi we have only had females, Molly, who has since traveled over the Rainbow Bridge. It took me 5 long years to even think about another dog & then Willow entered our lives. They have both been loving, cuddling, velcro to us, & love to play & are little clowns. Willow has just celebrated her 8th birthday🎂 & is even more loving❤️ & cuddling. The really neat thing is that when we adopted her we found out her birthday🎂 is December 15th, the same birthday as Molly. We see so many similar traits in each one of our beloved babies. I can't think of any other fur baby in our hearts & family than DACHSHUNDS.

From having had miniature dachshunds in my family for my entire life, one little quirk I've noticed(at least with the majority of dachshunds that I've been in contact with, as well as talking with many other dachshund families), is that dachshunds tend to bond closer with humans of the opposite gender. "Daddy's girl" & "Mama's boy" are terms I hear *_A LOT_*
