My mother went to Italy for ten days but while she was there she could pick up basic words and phrases and have basic conversations with locals.
Meanwhile I'm here in my third year of PreAp Spanish using google translate more than I probably should. I want to be fluent one day but... yeah.

I personally speak 8 languages and since I'm travelling it is very useful to me!! Also it contributes to how I see the world.
For example there are words in english that don't exist in French. For example there no word for "HOME" in French, there is just "HOUSE" which is pretty sad and cold actually.

Speaking different languages allows you to understand the world with more nuances and then to feel better in the world.😊🤓😀

I speak three languages and I'm learning two. And being able to speak that 'many' languages allows me to describe emotions way better.
I love learning languages and it's just...like being able to look at things from a different view or it feels like you opened a new window to a new world.

I know about Five languages, English, Arabic, French, a little Turkish, a little Spanish. I'm trying to learn Japanese so I don't have to watch the subtitle and the scenes in my anime but it's proven harder. I tend to mix between the languages now...

It's pretty easy to learn languages. Just learn languages when we are young is easier than when we are adult. My future child will be a fucking machine.

Thanks so much for this video! I've been wanting to learn ASL, Japanese, and German for a while but never got around to it. I learned French and my first is English, but I love learning new languages. This gives me motivation!

Best thing about being multilingual Is pretending to not understand their language and when they talk crap about you they think you don't know even though you do.

Where I'm from, there were 3 schools that had a program were you could start learning French when you were 5/4 years old, while in the other program, you would learn French in grade 4. (At the school I went to, when in grade 4, you could also choose to learn Ojibway instead of French. I don't think they had it at other schools.) The parents would always decide which program you would be in but if the teachers saw that you were having trouble in the French program, they would talk to your parents and you might end up switching to the English program.
Typically, smarter kids were put in the French program, while the not so smart and immigrant kids that didn't speak very much English were put in the English program. (I'm not saying immigrant kids that don't speak English aren't smart. It's just because since they don't speak to much English, it probably wouldn't be the best to have them learn French as well.)
If you were in the French program, you would start having 1/2 period(s) of English a day, then in grade 7/8, you would have half the day in French and half the day in English.
So either way, you would have probably learned a new language and become bilingual. Sorry for the long comment. Thank You of you read all of it!

I am learning Japanese (N3) and Korean (beginner). I want to also learn Thai, Spanish (already know some from school), and German but currently focusing on reaching Japanese N2. My quick advice for learning a new language: (1) find someone who knows the language so you can practice. If you can afford to get a teacher, get one; (2) watch tv or listen to audio in that language everyday because knowing the sounds and flow of sentences is important; you will start understanding conversations quickly plus pronounce words like natives. With tv, do not use subtitles! Instead use context clues (eg. emotions, body language, experience) + vocabulary you already know to understand what's happening. This technique helped me immensely with Korean. Good luck!
