How to fix a sander platen (Platen replacement)

Repair your sander platen yourself and save some money. In this video I show you how I fixed my electric palm sander by changing the worn out platen with a new OEM platen (N886264).You can see in the video that this sander platen is really tired. My Black and Decker mouse sander has been a work horse over the years but after completing a recent project it was failing to keep a sanding pad attached to the Velcro. This happens to every palm sander platen eventually.

After looking at my options online, buying a new sander for $44 or buying a replacement platen for $15 with shipping, I chose the $15 option. After speaking with a few friends I realized that some folks are not aware that these sanders can be fixed so easily. So, I made this quick video to share the process with you all.

Cool magnet tip! My mouse must be older than yours - it only has ONE screw holding the whole platten on! I need to know what glue to use to attach the pad to the base. It’s hot here in AZ & glues & tapes don’t last as well… Appreciate any help you can offer.

Whats easiest way to remove bearing from wheel?

My BDEM600s plater wore out in the tip screw lock after 4-5 uses, although I was careful not to overheat it, I mainly used the longer tip most of the time since I need it for small curved pieces.
Since I need to replace the plater, do you know if there are more durable versions?
