MIB2 firmware update tutorial (VW Audi Skoda Seat download links)

Guide to software update in VW Golf MK7 with MIB2 Discover Media infotainment system. This car is equipped with #MIB2 Standard unit made by Technisat/Preh and it came from the factory with MST2_EU_VW_ZR_P0245T #firmware (software number 0245). The latest firmware officially available for this unit is 0254 (SW train: MST2_EU_VW_ZR_P0254T). But there are ways to force #update to even higher versions like 0478.

⚠️ Warning! You are doing it at your own risk! This procedure can overwrite your custom modifications (CP-OFF, CID-Lock, SWaP patch, custom skins, Toolbox, Personal POI).

⚠️ Make sure your cars battery is in good shape, use external power source, or turn the engine on for the update process to make sure that voltage drops will not interrupt firmware update.

Use user/password: guest/guest to access the website.
Navigate to MQB_Solution directory and select your type of unit.

🛠 Procedure
1. Enter hidden menu and check your current SW train.
2. Find and download latest supported firmware update for your unit.
3. Use 8GB or larger SD card, format it with FAT32 file system with the smallest allocation size available.
4. Copy firmware update files to the root directory of the SD card.
5. Remove SD cards from the main unit and insert update SD into SD1 port.
6. Press and hold MENU button for 3 seconds, select "Software update/versions", "Update", "SD card", select firmware, press "Start" and "Next".
7. Wait patiently. Main unit will reboot 3 times before the new firmware is installed.
8. When the installation is complete you can press the arrow in the upper-right corner, "Cancel". Unit will reboot one final time.
9. Press and hold MENU button to confirm that the unit is running new firmware version now.

ℹ️ MIB2 units are made by 3 different vendors - Harman, Delphi, Technisat/Preg. Each vendor is developing its own firmware version and release its own updates.

ℹ️ MIB units have different generations - MIB1, MIB2, MIB3. Also different tiers - Entery, Standard, High, Premium. Also separate releases for different platforms - ZR and PQ; and separate regions - EU, NAR, JP, KOR, RoW. And each car manufacturer has its own brand-specific versions - Audi, Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda, Porsche. Each generation, tier, platform, car brand combination its using its own firmware version.

ℹ️ Depending on tier and functionality, car brands use different names for similar units. You can find VW Discover Pro, VW Discover Media, VW Composition Media, Skoda Bolero, Skoda Amundsen, Skoda Columbus, Seat Navi, Seat Navi Pro, Audi MMI...

ℹ️ MIB2 Technisat/Preh unit running firmware 02xx will allow you to install only other 02xx firmware version. It is possible to install higher versions (03xx and 04xx) but some system modifications are required. 0254 Is the latest version released for VW ZR units 02xx

OMG, thank you! This (along with your fault-clearing video) helped me get my 2017 Golf R MIB2 updated! The dealer says there isn't an update (I'm on MU 0751), but I new there's a MU 0755 out there. Your guides and links actually got me to MU 0757! Nice!

I don't see anything new, but the original reason why I was looking to update was I started experiencing spontaneous reboots every 5-10 minutes. It coincided with my Pixel 6 Pro getting it's long-delayed update (January 2022), so I thought my phone update caused it (rolled my eyes, figured it was yet another Google Pixel 6 related bug). When my friend plugged in his Galaxy S20 so we can use AA/Google Maps, it still rebooted, so it started me looking into my head unit. Pulling the factory SD card (Navigation for NAR v3) fixed the issue.

I feel much better that my head unit is now updated and hopefully any underlying bugs are fixed, too.

I upgraded my Golf 7.5 GTI Performance from MU Version 0472 to 0480, from Software Train Version MST2_EU_VW_ZR_P0472T to MST2_EU_VW_ZR_P0480T (TechniSat).
It took about 20 minutes with a 16 GB micro-SD card with SD adapter with 3 reboots as expected.
I lost only radio logos but it is not important for me; other preexisting functionalities like Apple Carplay/Android Auto, Performance monitor (as a GTI) and other stuff are still working fine.

Hi trying to update my software on my mib2std it’s running 0133 and you said in the video can be updated to higher which I’ve found 0480t but it won’t accept it and you said there was a work around it but can’t find any video thanks.

Thanks for the info, the car dealer in my city have told me that no update was available for the MIB2 used in my car, I just did the procedure and have updated successfully from 449 to 480 version.

Great Tutorial!
I have a unit with HW022 and SW MST2_EU_VW_PQ_P0245T, then I used the tutorial to update it to P0253T.
However, I would like to update it even more (for P0478T, for example), because I've bought a AAWireless Dongle (from Indiegogo) and it does not work with the firmware I have installed on my unit.
I'm pretty sure that this update would solve this problem, since I've tested in a newer unit (HW 04x and SW MST2_EU_VW_PQ_P0449T) and it worked.
Could you please let me know how to perform update from P0253T to P04xxT?

My SW Train Version is : MSTD_EU_VWP3350, so I can't find nothing that starts with MSTD in the folder that you shared. Also the Installed SW MU Version is 0430 witch is not 3350 XD Please help :) I just want to update my firmware and maps as well :)
