Star Ocean The Last Hope | Full Game Walkthrough | No Commentary

Today we archive a game that hits me with such nostalgia. The Xbox 360 might be the most underrated console when it comes to Japanese RPGs. This was because Microsoft launched a whole campaign to appeal more to the Japanese market and thus exclusives like Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscovery and also Star Ocean The Last Hope were born. Now many years later quite a few of these have been ported or remasterd to other consoles and PC. I still have my original Xbox 360 copy, but for this video I chose the Steam version that released only a few years ago.
I have very fond memories of this game with the colorful characters looking highly detailed and vibrant and the battle system being awesome with many different combos and direct control. I do have to admit that the years have not been so kind on the game in a few aspects. The characters look way more doll-like than I remember and a few dungeons definitely last too long for their own good, but overall it was great to have a reunion with this large cast of star explorers.
As Edge Maverick you are tasked with going to various planets to find suitable places to colonize. You will visit planets with drastically different biomes that range from tropical forests to hot deserts. The cool thing is that each planet feels like its own secluded story arc which makes it easier to follow along. One planet revolves around a mysterious disease that is slowly taking over an entire village. Whereas another planet has you travel back in time to the 1950's near Area 51.
The battle system is still as cool as I remember with great movement and plenty of combos for you to learn and master. There are plenty of characters to play as who vary greatly when it comes to their move set and play style.
Probably the worst are some of the characters as they are a bit cringe inducing, but other than that I had a great time with this game. Its still the only Star Ocean I have ever played to this day, so I don't really have a reference in comparison, but I hope to archive more Star Ocean games in the future to fully understand what the series is about.
