To make things easier, I've added my notes from the video into the description so you can just copy and paste the registry settings.

I love going into the registry and making changes to suit my needs. I remember people always telling me as i went through my travels through the IT sphere, "Do EVER go into the registry as you'll break the OS!" Since i was always the type of person to NEVER listen to anyone, i went into the registry and broke my OS! BUT...as i got older and much wiser, i learned how to comfortably go into the registry and i've never looked back. I think the biggest problems people have is that they confuse zeros with the letter O. As you mentioned in the video, if you change one single character, you can easily break the system. And the last hack was the best btw.

If you don’t like editing the registry yourself, WinAero does it all for you just by ticking a box. It has like 100 different tweaks and settings like disabling telemetry altogether and also the ones showcased in this video (and probably the next one too).

When editing the registry I have found it useful to just type the first letter and let it jump down close to what you are looking for. Example type "S" to get close to search setting and then use the down arrow to get the rest of the way. This works globally throughout Windows (ie. Explorer, Word...) Also right and left arrows work to expand and colapse branches.

I really like the way you break the mold of what a "tech guy" should look like!

The "bonus tweak" is all that I needed to make Windows 11 usable. Thank you so much.

At 11:43, after entering OK, and restore Explorer...it changes the Registry entry back to 03. Yes I know what I'm doing since I've worked with the Registry back to Windoz 98 SE. My Win 11 23H2 refuses to flip that bit ! All the other Mods worked fine. I need you feedback on this! Win update: as of Jul 31, 2024

The bonus hack was what I have been wanting for ages! Thanks 😃

Edit: 5 days after originally posting this comment I keep wondering why the context menu is so big then I remember I applied this hack! 🤣🤣🤣

As well as a restore point before reg hacks, you should also do a registry export as backup. Just to double up.

The right-click OLD context menu for 22H2 can be achieved by Holding <SHIFT> key while right-clicking.

Hey Rich, what an awsome channel! Having held off from upgrading from Win7 due to MS making a total mess of subsequent UIs, you have made the inevitable move to Win11 a lot less stressfull having had to get a new PC recently.

From your Win7 lookalike videos to the reg hack videos, my new PC is actually close to how I had my trusty 12 year old XPS8300.

But what I find is your delivery method is excellent and so easy to follow, unlike a lot of other channels.

I don't normally subscribe to channels on YT, but have here as your channel is spot on!

Thank you! The larger taskbar and restoration of the old, functional context menu helps make the clunky Windows 11 UI much better!

I recently got a TPM daughter board to plug into my old Intel X99 based motherboard, after the price dropped substantially - just to see if it would give me the option of upgrading to Windows 11. Even after installing this I was disappointed to see that the compatibility checker still said my system wasn't ready for Windows 11 because it didn't like my i7-5820k CPU (6 cores, 12 threads, clocked at 3.3GHZ - so what's not to like?). I was then surprised a few days later when Windows Update decided to upgrade me to Windows 11 all by itself, which (thank God!) it did successfully. It even kept all my existing applications working perfectly too, stuff like my media server, FTP server, web server, and home security camera hub - stuff that would have been a pain if I'd had to set it up all over again.

The main thing I've been very disappointed about in Windows 11 is how clunky and worse Microsoft's desktop UI has become! I really miss the Cortana/Search textbox on the task bar (without having to pop-up huge menus that I don't want to see), so hope they'll provide some user options for adding it back in.

Even before my Win-10 system upgraded itself, I have used "Classic Shell" for my desktop UI for years. After Windows 11 installed, I was happy to see that its Windows 7 style "Start" button and menus all still worked perfectly - even while the native Windows 11 "Start" button also appeared in the middle of the task bar and worked as well. Maybe someday Microsoft's UI team will create something worth using, but as Windows Vista, Windows 8, Windows 10, and Windows 11's horrible desktop UI 's show - they clearly aren't very good at this!

When you're navigating the Registry, you can reduce the scrolling about for keys, by typing the first letter of their names. If you're a fast enough typist and you manage to hit the second and third letters, too, you'll get to the very key you want, not just its neighborhood.

You are a lifesaver! I hate the fact that Microsoft thinks they are the cure-all for the computer world.! Thank you for your video!!

Thank you, love them all because I love to play around in the registry. But as you mentioned, always create a restore point, plus I always backup the registry as well. Looking forward to the next video!!

My Favourites were "Disable Dynamic Search" & "Disable Search Box Suggestions". I hate Microsoft's fixation of ramming adverts and their suggestions down our throats. I agree with you, if I want to Internet search for something, I'll open a Browser... just not Edge and certainly not Bing.
Very helpful video, thanks for taking the time to make it :)

the disable online search one has been breaking my balls for months! everytime i type a program name to start it quickly, the start menu lags for 3 or 4 seconds to do an online search before showing me the program i was looking for. Now it's snappy as it should. thanks a lot!

Changing the context window was my favorite hack in this video.
