You cannot use the first class lounge with a first class pass in most countries. (Vienna and Budapest excepted). Many trains have only a few first class seats or none at all. Never ever travel first class in Europe.

Leg space really depends on the country. Especially in not-high-speed trains the first class often make a big difference. In Regional trains is it better in almost every train, in long distance trains, I mean non-automotive stock. (I don't mean the highest train product, like in Germany the ICE. I mean the German IC train for example. Which is made of real carriages which you can easily take apart and put another one there, not like the ICE which always has the same carriages.)

Thank you for the video. What you say about seats is true but seats aren't the only thing to evaluate, it would be good to complete the report with the food you are served, the noise, wifi, etc.

Im traveling to rome this year and have booked first class train travel. First class offers a 3 seat wide configuration, and i like to sit alone. Also seats must be wider because in 2nd class, its a 4 seat wide configuration.

spanish tickets are crazy expensive 1st class premium barcelona-madrid was 400 euro for 2 and 2nd class turista is 100 euro for 2

I think it's highly dependent on where you're going and how many of the trains are likely to have first class.

A 15 day over 2 months pass the difference between 2nd class and 1st class is about 250EUR. My perspective with UK, just travelling from UK on Eurostar the 1st class pass bumps up to standard premier which is regularly 100EUR more than standard... it's a nice treat as a one-off.

But yes, if you're on a budget there's not a major difference.

Doesn't apply so much to me as it's my home country but the UK's first class couches offer ALOT more... they regularly include unlimited food and drink, often a hot meal. So if you're just going round the UK (or even will just come here for quite a small part of your journey) its worth it.
