Union Jack flag, also known as the Union Flag, is the national flag of the Great Britain. The flag combines the crosses of St George (England), St Andrew (Scotland), and St Patrick (Ireland).
The modern design dates back to 1801, when the Kingdom of Great Britain and the Kingdom of Ireland were united to create the United Kingdom.
The terms "Union Jack" and "Union Flag" are both used to describe the national flag of the United Kingdom. Both names are valid, and the use of "Union Jack" originates from naval usage.
The Union Jack is normally twice as long as it is tall, with a ratio of 1:2. In the United Kingdom, land flags are normally a ratio of 3:5. The flag features three-component crosses, and the white diagonal St Andrew's Cross width is 1/5 of the flag's height.
