Thanks for the review - I have been using a Leeds conversion kit for about 6 years now. It is a push button control - so no need for the fancy magnetic pedal monitor. I mainly use the electric for added torque on starts and hills. Installed on a Trek hybrid bike that at the time was about 10 years old. Adding electric power made riding more fun and accessible in my advancing years. Leeds is based in Utah. This Swytch system looks nice, small battery and has a nice dashboard display, but I do not want full time power assist. The Leeds does not have any display for battery info, but I have not had any problem with the battery over these 6 years. Just charge it up whenever I think it is time.

Good job walking through the e-bike conversion. It's great that you walked/talked through the details. I'm kind of pondering if I should buy this for my mountain bike. Thanks so much!

Warning. My Swytch kit arrive in the usual 6 months or so. Was not worried about that. Loved the kit but 11 months in the battery died (Within the warranty period) I did some tests they asked me to do and they said it was the bracket. They sent that about 5 months later and it didn't fix it. They got me to do the tests again and with the same results as the first time they diagnosed it as the power pack. by this time I had spoke to about 10 different people who didn't seem to have any knowledge about prior conversations. The latest rep said it didn't happen within the warranty period and that they couldn't send the battery to Sweden because it was 'Dangerous Goods'. After more frustrating back and forth someone higher up the chain apologised and said they would send it within 48 hours and that I would get it within two weeks. That was 6 weeks and 3 emails ago. So it's been 11 months since my bike broke and I've spent more money on public transport than the kit cost me in the first place. Wish I could get my money back but I'm stuck in no mans land waiting for this company to fulfill the minimum requirements of it's warranty agreement. I'm considering taking legal action but I'm honestly so tired of talking with them that their wear down approach of incompetence might overcome. Loved this product so much. Recommended it to lots of friends who now have kits and I hope this doesn't happen to them.

I added it to my pretty nice city hybrid, which I use for a lot of errands, grocery shopping, etc. It's a great addition. I strongly recommend getting the brake sensor, and the thumb throttle for pickup from being stopped at a light.
I have the smaller battery (I think now the only battery size) which I find a little limiting in cold Canadian winters, since it loses range. It is nice that the pack is easy to bring inside for charging or when it's cold out.

Since you didn't have the right size of shim for cadence sensor. I would have wrapped something around the petal crank arm to act as a temporary shim. Like thicker foam or rubber weather stripping anything that fills the gap and can be wrapped around crank arm and can then be pulled out or cut out after the sensor is in place.

I did this Swytch on my bike. Pretty easy. I also had the optional thumb throttle which was harder because I had to first remove the hand grip which was glued to the handlebar

Folks been bitch about the Swytch in UK cos of battery location, but there a really good idea in many ways, you get to keep your favourite bike and is fine for city / shorter journeys, the UK/EU law is max 250w anyway ( Yes that's less than Barbies car which puts out a full 1/2 HP) 😂also nice quality/ good looking ebikes are very expensive

You were so close to ordering latest version. Battery is much smaller and lighter with same capacity.

Note on zip-ties: If your zip-ties are too short, you can make a longer one by putting two or more zip-ties in series to make a longer one.

Magnetic attraction force follows the inverse CUBE law, so keep that in mind when installing the Hall effect sensor.

One thing to mention. Surely this makes your bike two wheel drive.
I'd be interested to see how it performs offroad.

You reslly need to get those shims to fit to keep the magnet ring centred, then the zip ties are just holding the ring to the arm.

You lost me at “it goes on the front wheel”. Good luck peddling up steep hill where most of the weight and traction go to the back wheel. Maybe ok for flatlanders, not good in the mountains. Any good reasonably priced kits for a mountain bike conversion?
