Welcome to our Fabric Espresso series! In this video Bogdan joins Stijn to talk about Microsoft Fabric and what place Azure Synapse has in all of this. We will talk a bit more deep on the engine that was created for Fabric Warehouse and how it compares to Dedicated SQL Pools!

Did not expect a google-level dick move of pulling the rug from under customer's feet that decided to build their analytics systems on SQL DW/dedicated pools, expecting a platform that will receive updates and improvements for years to come.

We're always eager for the traditional monthly updates on Synapse Analytics. Can you share any preliminary details about what the next ones will entail?

Thanks that helps! We have a dedicated pool. I'm still unclear what changes we'll need to make in our environment. I assume you'll be able to produce some migration documentation soon?

Great video! Love everything about fabric it seems like a truly innovative product. Going to implement for my BI organization.

Unrelated question, but where can I learn more about how I’d replicate our operational SQL server into fabric both either scheduled or always on?

Thank you for this video. I any way I had this feeling - when jumping in this synapse, spark and fabric topic - that this dedicated pool is a kind of "expensive" solution, which is just using the "old" structure of a traditional data warehouse (+ using the SSAS Service... in the cloud...). From my point of view, using Apache Spark instead can be the future. Now I am really happy to hear that the dedicated SQL pool will be replaced.

What is important for me is that Synapse will remain, why? There will be still people who will be able to build data architectures and will use a bunch of different services. Will this new SQL Engine (combining the best of both serverless and dedicated) also available as a service in Synapse, or only for Fabric?

In my opinion Fabric is ideal for end-user who already worked with Power BI. They can move to the next level by extending the know-how on data analysis. I also think that not every Power BI user will use the full set of features in Fabric.

Stijn, thanks at all again for all of the videos! 🙂 Today I get to know that synapse link will be replaced with fabric link. Can you please give some support on this topic?

So many questions:
Will the new SQL Engine be able to be run on demand, like SQL Serverless?
How will the costs be effected for those who use Serverless?

So in short: YES, Azure Synapse Analytics WILL be replaced by Fabric.
