Very excited that Microsoft Fabic has hit Public preview! But what does that mean for Guy in a Cube? Is Guy in a Cube going to cover Microsoft Fabric?

The information on Fabric is so jingoistic and vague. I've seen a lot of jargon saying 'Fabric ties everything together using blah blah blah' but it's so unclear what it will mean in terms of how it impacts our dedicated and embedded capacities, whether we have to use Fabric or not if we're not using the other services, and what will it mean to cost and performance of existing PBI capacities. I hope they do a much better job of realistically explaining exactly what Fabric beyond a simple 2 minute 'Fabric preview is here' video.

Thanks for the update, Adam! As an enterprise PM heavily using PBI without the full Microsoft data stack, I'd like to learn what Fabric means (if anything) for my workflows. This seems like a HUGE deal for people in the Microsoft stack, but even after reading all the documentation, it's unclear which benefits I should expect besides UI updates. Thanks!

Side note, I'm so stoked for PBIP files and GIT integration! 🙏

HYPED for fabric. I know Power BI and use databricks notebooks but I've never caught up on infrastructure deployment / IaC so always rely on others on the team... so much potential. BANANAS!

Looking forward to Fabric becoming usable for actual workloads soon (looking @you, incremental refresh & on-prem SQL connectivity 😉😉). I will come here for updates throughout, as always. You guys rock!

Why are comments turned off for the Fabric Launch Day videos?

Stoked! Being a power bi user in a big organization that earlier relied on IT to get me data and now wanting to market this more of a "citizen analyst" aproach to getting hands on with data sources and wharehousing, where to best refer IT to in order to get them confident in still being in control of the data while at the same time allowing for more flexibility for business users in getting hands on with the data? Not fully understanding this balance yet..

We signed up for the Fabric Preview but it's not clear "when" we can experiment with Copilot for Power BI? Do you guys have it now and can we soon see some videos on Copilot for Power BI ? Perhaps you can help all of us understand this awesome new functionality will be available ?

I am so excited about Fabric. I think that in some ways it reduces complexity. There are a lot of features that were adjacent to Power BI but were “buried” in Azure such as Synapse and ADF. I am very happy that those are being surfaced more directly in a familiar interface. (I have never mastered the Azure ecosystem because every time I open the UI I immediately shut it down again—so overwhelming!) I believe this is similar the the rebranding and launch of OneDrive and then Teams. Under the covers, both technologies are Sharepoint. But Sharepoint was a very confusing and complex interface and therefore not a lot of people leveraged all of its capabilities. Now there is a logical on ramp to get to the additional more complex features of Sharepoint when you need them. I think the same is true with Fabric. I am not as excited about Copilot only because I havent really played with AI. But I am very excited about machine learning being one of the pathways in Fabric. While I don’t think this will be a turn key plug& play environment for most business folks, it has the potential to put some incredible tools into the hands of motivated business users. All up—super psyched but recognize we are st the beginning of a growth process as we learn the tool, integrate our knowledge from other tools, and share the capabilities and potential with each other. And no, I am not paid by MS, nor do I blindly extol products. I just think this is game changing — OVER TIME.

Thanks for this. I think all BI/Data Teams should really stop and think about what all of this means for their team and if/how they should pívot. I know it’s a big change for my team. Awesome stuff and very exciting!

In my point of view, it is a game changer, my main question is as so far I developt all in my workspace what could be the impact and changes if I am move to Fabric,

I am optimistic on this new features but for large company a lot of things as to be considered before to open to this new world

But does it make sense to integrate all those tools into one Fabric tool? Will there still be a need to use the existing tools separately? What will happen to the existing tools? Are they now all being replaced by Fabric??

Can't wait, Adam! Crazy how fast technology moves nowadays. If I only I didn't have to sleep.

It would be amazing to know what would happen to our Premium Capacity Workspaces. Our licenses will get more than before, and all fabric will cover with our current Premium capacity workspace? How we could leverage the new options?

Def on for the ride! Did you say 'One Lake'? What is that in an example?

Very excited as a business side developer to get into the bigger stack of Fabric. I will miss DAX calculated dim columns I.e. slicing dynamic big/med/small customers. If that entirely goes away I will push those up-stream as I should :)

All I see if jobs being made redundant? Especially when you see the capabilities of what CoPilot can do!? What now for people that work with data is there a future?

How fabric will impact or not tabular modeling and SSAS engine? What would be able to be done (visuals and dax) from a "direct lake" source?
