For whoever came up with this design I just want to say I would be less inclined to believe this is magic if you just went ahead and admitted it.

I still dont understand how it works. Can we get a more indepth video on it ? 🙏 😊

In the beginning he references rotation, he sort of misspoke. It's like a chiseling motion, that presses through the material in an orbital sequence. Yes, you can call it rotational, but its more aptly described as pushing sequentially around the broach's shape to force material out of the way as it goes into the pilot hole.

Rotary broaching is a god damn testament to humans knowledge of physics and metallurgy. No more square hole jokes, we've done that.

This looks like an April fool's joke. Incredible

Broaches blew my mind more than anything in machining when i first learned about them

It's so amazing. Im looki g for slo-mo videos just to see how this works. Fasten-ating what modern machining is capable of!

Every now and then I find out about a tool or technique through YT shorts, and it just blows my mind how inventive humans are. We're gonna be fine.

I still can’t figure out how this is working more explanation please. Is it cutting through vibration

Rotary broaching is a method used to create specific shapes, like hexagons or squares, inside holes in metal or other materials. First, a hole is drilled in the material. Then, a special cutting tool called a rotary broach, which has the shape you want to create, is placed at the hole's edge. This tool is slightly tilted and rotates as it moves into the hole. The tilting and rotating motion helps the tool carve out the desired shape inside the hole as it goes deeper. This process is quick and accurate, making it useful for making precise shapes inside holes.

That is so cool. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I never knew!

I have done lots of in machine broaching but one part I made for a missile launch release that had 3 keyways that had to be within 30 minutes to align with a hole. So the broach had to be timed with a broach brake. It still drifted a bit each part so I added a sub program which used macro variables to shift c axis . This was in a twin spindle twin turret lathe with bar feeder. Man I love this job

Using Internal Rotary Broaching be careful on the coolant it can cause hydraulics and breakdown the broach in no time from the hydraulics. Make sure you have a larger hole for this.

It’s looks like it spinning but in fact it’s just moving super fast almost like it’s vibrating and removing metal gradually

Dude figured and replicate magic, now he's selling it.

This just reminded me of a “this old Tony” video on this subject😂 I need to check his channel again

It’s basically pressing its way through the material, the rotating becomes more like oscillating once it has a force applied to it, and it rocks so only 1 cutting/pressing tooth is applied at a time meaning the pressure required is a fraction of what it would be on a straight push. This may be completely wrong in a builder not a machinist hahaha 🤙

As a toolmaker I love these kinds of videos. I'm an expert on these things and yet I rarely get to see them in action.

That orientation looks like to be random

So what if it needs to be oriented exactly specific ways?

Why does the broaching tool seize up in the first clip? Is that by design?
