In celebration of National Chocolate Chip Day on May 15, we dig into the science of chocolate chip cookies (the reason chocolate chips exist in the first place!). What do all of those ingredients do? Can you swap baking powder for baking soda without ruining your cookies? Join us to find out!

1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter, softened
¾ cup granulated sugar
¾ cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large eggs
2 cups chocolate chips
