In this video, Dr. Arfa Sayeda Zehra, Joy of Urdu Board Member and long-time advisor, explains the significance of the campaign. Joy of Urdu shared a total of 193 videos, from 40 cities, 10 countries, covering over 104 authors, including 15 people who read their own work. We had 22 videos for and by kids. In the regional language segment we covered Hazargi, Punjabi, Brahvi, Baluchi, Pushto, Sindhi languages.
In this time of Covid, this video was made possible with the collaboration of Areesh Zubair, a Lahore-based photographer whose “balcony series”, #DuurSePortrait is documenting people and their expressions during the lockdown from a safe distance.

We ran this popular #socialdistancing campaign, #GharBethiyeKitabeinParhiye asking you to stay indoors: read and acquaint yourself with the wealth of Urdu literature at our disposal (if you are privileged to be able to do that). We received scores of selfie videos from all ages, countries, and walks of life, and even celebrities!
People read excerpts, recited poetry, some sang, including a Bollywood singer! From children in Grade 2, to retirees; and from 40 cities around the world, from countries such as Pakistan, Russia, US, Canada, UK, UAE, and across the border, from India!
