The Moon Landing: Stanley Kubrick's Greatest Film | How NASA and Hollywood Fooled the World

Stanley Kubrick is considered one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. Of his 13 movies a few are considered classics in their respective genres. Including the black comedy Dr. Strangelove, the highly-quotable anti-war commentary of Full Metal Jacket, and one of the most disturbing and enduring horror films of all time, The Shining.

But in 1968, Kubrick released "2001 – A Space Odyssey". This is more than a classic. It's a masterpiece. And widely regarded as one of the best science-fiction films of all time, and probably the most influential.

This collaboration with science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke tells the story of an alien intelligence that visited Earth in the distant past, and left behind artifacts in the solar system.

The movie features groundbreaking special effects, which still hold up today.

In fact, the effects looked so good, that the movie gave the American government an idea.

Billions of tax dollars were invested in the space program but the Soviets were still years ahead of the United States.

NASA desperately needed to get to the moon before Russia, but they knew it was impossible. So they turned to one of the world's best filmmakers for help. Because when it came to the moon: if they couldn't make it, they'd fake it.

Part 2 please!!! The incredible amount of research put into these episodes doesn’t go unappreciated.

Always do this channel yourself. Never give this to a network or some streaming crap. This is perfect.

Buzz Aldrin sank into reclusiveness by the 1972-1973. He also sank into a deep depression and also suffered from alcohol addiction. Huge anxiety ridden from having to keep the facade. Aldrin decided to become a recluse

This channel is better than 99% of what’s on tv

In Diamonds are Forever I always loved how the "astronauts" didn't break character even when an English secret agent runs through their set. They still move around like they're on the moon even when trying to stop him.

Every time I see the "WF" in the red circle pop up in the episode, my mind says "wtf", there is no way I'm the only one.

I remember seeing the spacecraft in the Smithsonian museum as a kid thinking…THAT thing went to the moon? A tinfoil thin craft? Then it made me start questioning.

You tied everything up nicely, the only sticking point I still had was the Van Allen belt. Hearing NASA saying "Oh we had that technology but we lost it" was a bit much for me.

I saw the moon landing at 16 years old! My biggest amazement wasn’t that they supposedly landed on the moon, it was the way the astronauts behaved when they returned! Watching the interviews I was shocked at how dead and lifeless they acted! They had just done the most remarkable thing ever and they acted like they were ready to cry…. Not one smile or jubilant moment. What World Series or super bowl winner would behave like that?

Thank you for all you & your team's hard work.
My 17 year old hung himself a month ago & I found him. He is my world & an amazing kiddo in contracting school. Never a drug or drink.
I was already a fan but I binge watch you since. It has given me comfort through many sleepless nights.

The fact that Mr. Wolf was "mysteriously" hit by a car and ended... That speaks volumes to what he was expressing. Rest in Paradise, Mr. Wolf. Thank you for trying.

This is why we have never gone back. Modern high tech video equipment used by regular people would see everything. Easy to pull off with a fuzzy black and white tv.

A part 2 would be great, talking about what's on the moon, don't forget, the Chinese have apparently landed a craft on the moon, where's all the pictures from that? Love the work you guys do, the joke's and innuendo are great. Keep up the good work 😊

I'm pretty sure I speak for many people when I say we want to see an episode of what was found on the moon. As for this episode, it is definitely my 2nd favourite episode, behind the 'Surviving the next mass extinction' episode. And this channel remains my favourite channel on youtube. ♥ Sending love from South Africa!!!
