Absolutely agree. iPad OS is the limiting factor and has been for at least 4 years.
Anybody who’s thinking about buying iPad as their main computer, unless they will use it to draw - just buy MacBook Air, a thousand times better use of your money.

Apple needs to finally allow the iPad Pro to grow up. iPadOS is great for the base iPad, but not the iPad Pro. So far all the M2 "upgrades" have been duds. Base M2 MacBook Air I am looking at you!

TL;DR - PC grade hardware/phone grade software/OS. The personal computer each of us the most use in our household are our iPads. We love it for consumption, learning and a little creation and communication. However to your point it is in this mid-point that is holding it back. It needs to either be a real computer or a large iPhone like it originally was. But now it has this amazing processor, screen, storage, so on that would allow it to be a sweet on the go PC but it is hobbled with a phone OS.

Feel like apple will wait till they have squeezed as much as possible from the current MacBook Chassis/parts before they make iPads a direct competitor to them. (By making iPads function like a MacBook but with a touch screen).

Ho Lee Chit your not holding back I hope. I will no doubt get the M2 iPad Pro 12.9 with 256 or take a chance with an Amazon renewed M1 pro 12.9 1TB for the same price as the new 256 GB not sure. The trade value for the pro is also terrible. Everything thing is chit mate .

It would be easier if they just added touch screens to their macbooks air. If Microsoft can do it, Apple can do it.

It's a turn in the culture of Apple from creation to corporate profit.
They obviously won't put Mac os on Ipad because then people will just get the ipad instead of a Macbook rather than both and on top of that u can get the ipad from telcos so it will really compound.
It's clear Apple is using a cookie cutter model now, no real innovation, I think the bezels on that ipad should be gone atleast on an update, not that I care because I use samsung and my fold 4 is all the tablet I need, Steve would be rolling in his grave that Apple hasn't got a folding phone.

I see it different, as a complimentary device, so I do not have to open my laptop for stuff. It has never been a replacement for my laptop, and I feel that the vast majority do not see it as that. With regard to being a big phone, maybe yes, but why is that bad? As you get older, weary eyes, BIG is better, especially for content consumption; watching Netflix on a phone sucks, utter waste of a movie experience.

Also, I just read the first lot of medical long term monitoring of the effect of phones on eyes and it makes grim reading. I suspect that the youth of today will end up with bad eyesight and other issues due to watching that smaller screen, basically squinting at the small display. Short and long sighted issues are growing, and I feel that people should maybe think about a cheaper phone and a tablet combo, to save their health.

So, no, tablets are great, and much better than phones for many of us, my elderly parents for example, big text, ideal around the house. The iPad 10 looks nice and will sell well. It is more expensive than iPad 9, but the latter is still on sale so that is not an issue. No fail here, just Apple cementing their tablet domination.
