That's exactly the reason why really like Sony's smartphones. They put back audio jack in their phones so I can use my wired headphones, powered from my phone. I'm really glad that audio jacks on phones aren't dead.

something so insidious i rarely see people mention or remember is how when the airpods were first released, there was so many memes about how ridiculous they were. and then i think about a year later there was a bunch of memes about how airpods were a symbol of wealth, such as insinuating people without airpods were broke. and it wouldn't surprise me if that was a covert marketing technique apple did that people took and ran with, without realising.

It's crazy to me how i _still_ see people spewing apple fanboy bs saying that removing a feature was actually good because "moving forwards" or something

The thing that annoys me is the lack of choice. There are many contexts where I enjoy using wireless headphones. However, if I had to make a choice between extra waterproofing and a headphone jack, I would choose the headphone jack. Not having it makes using wired headphones worse. You can't charge the phone simultaneously and you have to fuss about with silly dongles.

Apple removeing the headphone jack is literally what caused them to permanently lose my business. At the time I had a pair of wired headphones that I loved and worked great and didnt have the money or energy to deal with Bluetooth earbuds. I switched to Samsung to preserve my headphones and my several year old phone has not let me down yet!

I hate this problem. One thing that I think was glossed over is that the wireless earbuds are just straight up fragile. With all this talk about waterproofing, wireless earbuds can just fall on the ground or get a little wet and they will never work again, and that's 100+ dollars in the garbage. What's especially infuriating is that when I gave up and just bought a 50 dollar pair of earbuds from the local Walmart equivalent, it worked for years. Sound quality is garbage but the build is more robust, battery life is WAY longer and it doesn't break as much. Almost makes me think expensive earbuds are engineered to break quickly so the owner buys a new pair.

Also, this video got me thinking, why the heck don't I just turn my wired earbuds into wireless ones? I'm on the verge of buying a 60 dollar portable bluetooth headphone amp with hours of battery life, so that I can just plug it into whatever wired earbuds I want and have it connect to my phone. All the benefits, none of the downside.

The worst part is since they lead the trend, the moment they started doing stuff like this all other manufacturers followed. They literally caused the whole problem of removing demand for wired headphones and now I can’t even find a good and affordable pair of wired headphones easily.

Def got used to my JBL Bluetooth headphones but some days I still wished I had my old wired headphones.

so they created a problem and tried to sell me the solution, but I'd encourage the people to buy the solution from their competitors instead

I use bluetooth all the time. My favorite earbuds do not have a pause function so i can't just stop things.

I still prefer wired tbh. The wires get in the way but they still sound better.

When I had to replace my phone due to the 3G shutdown in Australia, my three deal-breaker features were VoLTE support, an SD card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The latter two ruled out Samsung completely, as they've gone the Apple route and removed them as well. No way am I going to buy wireless earbuds. They're a recipe for losing something expensive and I do NOT want to have to deal with yet another battery that requires charging, especially when it's not removable! I use wireless headphones with my desktop machine that run on AAA batteries, and I'm swapping those out for a freshly charged set every couple of days. All batteries and data-storage devices should be legally mandated to be removable.

I was one of those people who stubbornly used wired earpod with my iphone. I switched to a noise cancelling bluetooth headphone a few years ago and honestly that's the best purchase I've made in the past few years. Wired earphones kept breaking for me and noise cancelling really helps reduce stress for me in public places. I am so glad I never gave apple any money for their shitty airpods tho. Cannot imagine having to live with 4-5 hour batter life.

I use overear headphones, as apposed to in-ear buds, so this was the first time hearing what the battery life on airpods actually is for me. 4-5 hours is insanely short.

I run my ANC on my headphones constantly when i am out of the house, and am playing music whenever i am not in class. af home, i am often listening to a video or music in the background of what i am doing. putting aside the issues with my phone time, what i am saying is i use my headphones near constantly when i am awake.

I have had this pair for around 3 years now, and i still go ~5 *days* before having to charge them.

Airpod customers deserve better. i am sorry that you are all being ripped off like this.

Could you make another rc video about the physical ownership vs digital debate?

For some reason I would always TRASH my wired earbuds. Usually right below where it plugs in, the plastic would degrade and shred eventually exposing the wiring inside and destroying it. I probably went through 3 pairs every year. I dont think I was unusually hard on them?

I also often would forget that I was attached to my phone or forget it wasn't in my pocket, jump up from my desk and walk away, only for my phone and earbuds to get yoinked away and go crashing to the floor

Because of that, overall I prefer wireless earbuds for general use. However.... I'm still upset they got rid of the jack. Its really nice to have sometimes, even if its not your preference! Like, who would complain about having the ability to use both kinds of earbuds? There is no reason for it except greed

Edit: and i dont even have an apple phone anymore! Ive had samsung galaxy phones since probably 2016? And yet they forced that change too

You need a merch shop to sell the shirt you are wearing in the video. I dont usually by merch, but having a shirt that just says "shirt" on it would be hillarious

Never owned a set of airpods. Still think they look dumb. I also feel like earbuds (wired and wireless) over all have lasted less time for me than over the head headphones.

The annoyance of the lack of headphone jack is also that you can’t easily connect to most AUX options without converter cables. The headphone jack can also universally quickly connect to mixers and speaker systems and whee you are trying to set up a new or temporary bluetooth connection its just over all more annoying then simply quickly plugging in via a headphone jack.

the removal of the headphone jack is still the saddest thing in my eyes, luckily I have a dedicated music player again
