A Thinkpad that can't run Linux is not a Thinkpad

Thanks for checking and calling out the GNU/Linux support part!

I'm very disappointed on Lenovo about that, but I've seen similar issues with other Lunar Lake laptops, I wonder if AMD versions would have the same issues.

Linux support will definitely arrive, people will just jave to wait to receive an updated kernel patch on whatever distro they have.

I was going through difficult financial times when I purchased a Thinkpad T60 second hand from Newegg. That T60 was reliable and sturdy and never let me down when I needed it most. Fast forward a decade later and I’m doing alright, drive a Maybach and am building a home in Tahiti. I still have my T60 and although I have retired her from active service, she’ll always have a special place in my heart 💕and reminds (& humbles) me of my challenging past.

Correction, this laptop does come with Haptic thinkpad, but it is an option and might not be in every market.

ech, this is going to end my love for thinkpads. No Linux, no buy. Bye bye.

I run Fedora 41 with mainline kernel (6.14-rc2) and everything works (fingerprint reader, camera, sound, everything).

6.13 fixed all drivers, 6.14 enabled Copilot button rebinding in Gnome.

7-9 hours of light software development work, no battery drain in sleep.

No problems with light gaming also

Can't wait for the Flow Z13 review, planning on purchasing after weighing the pros/cons. Love the content 💯

I find it insane -- and quite clownish -- how so many "power users" from the tech space keep giving Apple's laptops so much sh1t for their "high prices", but then pretend not to notice the likes of Dell or Lenovo practice even more obscene pricing in somewhat inferior products...

Omg this side by side with X9 will be a good review. Also hope you compare the 15” X9’s far larger battery and NON-Sensel touchpad with the Sensel touchpads on the X1 and X9 14”!

It's a shame it doesn't have good Linux support from the get-go, and the lack of a haptic touchpad. I'm definitely looking forward to your ThinkPad X9 review because that one looks like the kind of laptop that I'm looking for.

I appreciate the report on Linux support.

Lenovo prices are so inflated. You have to wait for one of their "sales" to get a normal price. It's infuriatingly anti-consumer and exploitative.

Thank you Josh. You are constantly confirming my understanding of the laptop market, and that is reassuring. Given up on Linux might be Lenovo's new strategy. It would be a shame, I have depended on their Linux compatible laptop for over ten years now. Having switched ftom Dell.

Think I'm angling toward the Thinkpad X9. Do NOT need a nubbin. Cannot wait to hear what Josh and team think!

Great review, worked on one for while-no touch screen, tinny sound, small trackpad-but yes great screen, surface 7 way better overall- I’ll be interested in your upcoming review of Surface 7 Intel Lunar Lake

The price is just absurd.. I didn't even convert it to my Australian dollar yet, because it is even higher in Australia because of the distance
