About 25% of car owners do no maintenance at all. No oil change, no transmission fluid, brake fluid, power steering fluid services, don't change the spark plugs, replacing brakes, rotors, tires, services that are routine.

If a car company builds vehicles that last a long time then they will attract buyers from those who have experienced short life span and high repair bills on other brands. My wife wanted a BMW X5 but I categorically said no after my own recent experience and instead we ended up buying an Acura MDX. My next cars will be Acura/Honda/Toyota or Lexus . . . . I've had my fill of the ultimate driving machines.

Facts. Most new vehicles are expensive POS garbage that will fail in less than 5 years 😭

My Subaru Forester may not be the greatest car made but I can actually do most of the maintenance and parts replacement work myself. I agree, today’s vehicles are sadly made to poor specs. The engineers are all getting pushed out by bean counters. I wish these engineers could talk. (NDA’s?) thanks Mark. Right on. Good analysis.

You are right about the way a car is designed, having cheap parts and no quality control. I have a 10 year old VW and things just keep failing. Most recently I had to replace the blower motor for the AC, the hatchback actuator/door lock and just recently I got a 4000 dollar repair bill for engine oil leaks, timing chain valve cover, repair of leaking oil line to the turbo charger, timing belt and tensioner replacement and the car has 85k miles on it. Now the passenger side window will not work and the driver's side arm rest is broken. I have about 6000k in repair bills for a car that is worth about 5-6K. The killer is that the VW is still a reasonable car but the repair bills are stacking up. It makes me just want to junk the car!

Great video. The truth is a tough pill to swallow. Car manufacturers don't like us very much - they love our money just fine, but they don't like us. I've heard it said if you put an engineer in charge, the cars are great, but if you put an accountant in charge, the car quality suffers for it. I guess this explains why I've been seeing so many "parting out" cars for sale that are less than 10 years old - many of them of the European kind.

Reminded me of why many manufacturers used a plug instead of a zerk on U joints.

Every vehicle on the road can fail miserably at any time, whether if it is reliable or not. So, always make sure you take good care of the vehicle by doing little maintenance and/or repairs, research it prior to test driving and buying the vehicle and always buy used, every single time you plan to purchase any vehicle. Anyway, there are three good vehicles to buy and three bad vehicles to avoid. Always buy the good ones, not the bad ones. The vehicles that you should buy are the 1999 to 2004 Ford F-250 or F-350 Super Duty 4x4 pick-up truck with the 7.3 L Powerstroke turbodiesel V8 engine and either the four-speed automatic or the six-speed ZF manual transmission, the 2006 to 2008 Buick Lucerne CX or CXS five-passenger large sedan with the 3800 (3.8 L) V6 engine and the four-speed automatic transmission and the 2011 to 2017 Honda Odyssey Touring eight-passenger minivan with the 3.5 L V6 engine and the six-speed automatic transmission. The vehicles that you should not buy are the 2007 to 2016 GMC Acadia mid-size crossover with the 3.6 L V6 engine and the six-speed automatic transmission, the 2004 to 2008 Chrysler Pacifica crossover wagon with any V6 engine and any automatic transmission and the 2002 to 2006 Nissan Altima 2.5 S mid-size sedan with the 2.5 L four-cylinder engine and the four-speed automatic or the five-speed manual transmission. Thank you very much and happy 2023, buddy!!!

I agree, Mark. You forgot to mention the owner of the vehicle as well being the problem. 😛While Toyota and Honda are great. They've been going downhill a bit.

I’ve always bought Honda and Acura, my latest was the 2019tlx v6, never had a problem. I love German looks but do looks justify price tag, maybe only for that sexy blue c300 coupe

Part of my business is with scrap metal, it's an eye opener all the cars that are in there and of course it's filled with the usual suspects, consumer reports puts out its list of least reliable cars and your channel and others give us consumers information of unreliable vehicles, its appalling how much certain cars depreciate as soon as you drive it off the lot and within 5 yrs, they are no longer cost effective when they break down and head to the junk yard, Japan has a good formula for sure my friends Toyota camry is going on 20yrs and he still drives it, unfortunately my dodge truck is on its last legs but I bought it cheap at an auction and it paid for itself multiple times over

If you are gonna spring for an expensive German brand vehicle, do your research and get 1 thats made in Germany. Cant rely on the vin numbers any more. Audi found a way around that. Its now defined as long as the company is "headquartered" in that country, then you can use the vin number. For example, all of their Q5 model vins start with "WA." That used to mean they were built in the Q5s have all been built in Mexico since the 2018 model. Nothing like corporate deception.

This is from BMW article 'Now, designers are incorporating simple but vital systems such as a handle built into the end of the wiring harness that allows it to be easily removed at scrapping time. Such things will take years to filter through the system, though'
So it's all about recycling and short life span of components in cars, that's what's main concern for all of manufacturers nowadays.
So the worst is still ahead of us....

I had a 2011 Toyota Corolla manual bought with 100 k miles. I put 150, 000 more miles and wrecked it with 250 k miles. Original clutch, motor, internal components except tires brakes and it would’ve kept going.
