Geo fabric is great for stabilizing sub surface before rock. We have red clay here in Virginia and using a 700 lb. compactor we probably don’t need the geo fabric, but its cheap insurance for settling issues;

So you're saying that just pouring crush and run on a tamped ground of dirt and rock will not be sufficient?

That is not filter cloth and does not drain well. But excellent for blocking weed growth

If you get a heavy rainfall on your compacted gravel base can it have a negative effect on it?
