I took my mum first class to London for her sixtieth birthday, as she'd never been. When I picked her up to go to the train, she had the biggest bag of food with her I'd ever seen! Sausage rolls and everything. I politely informed her that good was readily available in the nations capital city and that I was taking her to Harrods for lunch. I gave the food to the homeless people in King's Cross. My mum said 'that's best beef sandwiches you've just given away'. There is no mum like a northern mam.
Sidenote; I asked the taxi driver to take us down pall mall to see the palace, as it was for my mum's 60th. His wife had just given birth to a little boy and as a celebration, he turned his meter off and drove us around for an hour, with no charge! How fabulous was that?!
