Hello Holly, I have a 2nd interview with a second recruiter at Amazon this coming Monday for a Technical Recruiter position. I love your videos and i have been watching religiously. I did mess up and give the recruiter a number on compensation. Can I come back from this? And can you give me any other advice for the interview?

Thank you so much, Holly! I followed your videos for a while, it helped me land an offer for Applied Scientist II at Amazon.

A few questions that I was asked:
- "what am i looking for or what do I want next?" - do you have a video to prep for that?
- "Why abc company?"
- "salary" - funny enough the moment I started saying open for market value, the recruiter finished the phase for me :)
- tell me about your responsibilites
- tell me about your most impactful project, size, scope. - how is best to answer this question?

What does it mean if the recruiter did not interview me but has scheduled me to phone interview with a current team member instead?

Hi Holly, Could you share your thought whether I should go for this role? I missed your livestreaming today;
- Referral : I recently got a referral from AWS security program manger on linkedIn and started the interview process and did 1st chime phone screen for Datacenter security manager(L4).
- Phone screening: The interviewer told me that he will push me through to the loop interview and practice for it.
- Hiring Manager of Team: Hiring Manager called me before I got the result and said that the title of the role I'm applying to is actually different from what exactly I will do. She said although it's manager job, but actually it's "working level" and the team is looking for people who can support other mangers with a "humble attitude". I could be overqualified for the role so I could be demotivated etc... all the bad things about the role. From the conversation, I got an impression that she was trying to dissuade me to stop the whole process...
- Got the result of phone screen: Got an email asking another chime video interview.
I'm kinda afraid this could be a red flag and confused that if they don't want me anymore or if that's the job that is really had bad reputation...

The referral employee told me that "you are not gonna decline the offer once you pass that the whole interviews right?? " I guess she was half joking but with all situation, I'm not sure if I have to go for this position. Currently, I'm working in information security field around 4yrs, and the job is physical security and non tech job.

@hollylee--sorry to be dumb here just making sure I am understanding 100%--what we are talking about in this video here: recruiter call? is this the same thing as phone screen, recruiter screen etc (these terms are one in the same)? I have also heard it called "first interview" by another amazon coach AKA the first interview with amazon after completing the assessment if you are applying to a role that requires an assessment?

Also...I feel so dumb AGAIN!!! I am applying for a finance manager role....and I am seriously a great fit for this role. I am not just saying it. I really am. My biggest business impact has been the consulting working I have done with our internal and external banking clients-I have done process improvement projects, financial transformation projects, credit improvement, cost reduction, APR reduction for businesses, business strategy, business planning etc. etc. -some of these financial consultations I have done have been the difference between my business owners keeping the doors open and closing down for good. If I can talk about my consulting work, in a clear and concise manner-include some data-talk about the variety of projects and influence, -relate the skills back to the role, I would include the leadership principal on customer service--cant remember the name, Because honestly? I really went above and beyond the call of duty for my clients!

**Do you think this is a really impressive business impact that would grab my recruiter from the beginning of my phone screening? Or, is your opinion I should go back to the drawing board and think of another example? I know you said this is one of the first questions? I need to grab my recruiters attention form the start and make him or her say WOW!!! I NEED TO MOVE EMILY TO AN ON SITE!!! SHE IS FAB!!! AND WE NEED HER IN THIS ROLE!!!

Hi Holly, is it out of the ordinary that I never got a prescreen call? I applied and the next day got an email for the technical test which I passed and then they scheduled with me my final loop interview. So far I haven't talked to anyone on the phone, wondering if the sourcer just skipped that step maybe?

OH HOLLY!!!! Sorry, one more thing!! I really liked in this video, when you gave the example of "tell me about yourself" but for executive and sr roles! If amazon asks me to tell them about what I do in my current role I am going to use a somewhat similar format to answer! Typically I pretty much read the bullets from my resume (to avoid stumbling on my words), but I mean I know they have already read what I put there and it provides 0 additional insight on my skills/experience! THANK YOU for helping me elevate my response!!!! YOU ARE GREAT!!! This job at Amazon is mine!

Is it normal for amazon to use an external recruiter? I was contacted by a recruiter amazon use and now have a telephone interview to be scheduled. I haven't been given details of who it's with...would it be with an internal recruiter? I was emailed that it would be with a team member so just not sure

Hi Holly, do you have 1-on-1 Amazon interview coaching sessions or specifically stories prep coaching sessions?

My recruiter did not accept the avoiding the salary attempt. He wanted a number and while polite he wasn't going to allow escape. His reasoning is that it would be a waste to go through the whole interview just to miss in the salary area. I did luck out - he was required to tell me the minimum amount so I was able to estimate better

Hi Holly! One more quick question! I am finishing preparing over the weekend before my recruiter phone screen this Monday. I am interviewing for a finance manager role so non tech obviously and non executive, should I also be prepared for them to ask me for a list of projects I have recently worked on as well? (if so-I will prepare I guess 5-8 and relate them to the role) I assume "a walk through of the resume" will be part of the call? typically it is done like this--tell me the daily responsibilities of your 2 most recent roles ad then confirming the dates, company and titles of all of the rest of your roles on the resume? your education? tech programs proficiency required for the role etc? Is that how the resume walk through is typically. done with amazon during the phone screen? Or should I be prepared for something else?

I always answer the salary question as suggested in the video, but sometimes the recruiter insist asking for a number lol

Hi Holly, is it normal that I haven't had any interaction with a recruiter? My phone interview is tomorrow. I got an email last week requesting my availability for a phone interview and my interview time was confirmed. However, I have no idea who my recruiter is. The interview is with someone with the same job title that i'm applying for. Is it normal to not have a recruiter at this point in the process?

you give them a nice salary deferral phrase. They say "No, give an answer or i'm hanging up" .

@hollylee I always answer the salary question like this? and it has worked well since I have been applying for Sr. finance manager roles? I too have been pressured to provide "my number" and I will ask for roles/companies that do not share the range for any state (even if it is not my own) if they can share the range with me to give me an idea? and 9/10x they will tell me no and respond: "give me your number and I can tell you if it's within our range or not"

I have gone through interview training and consulted a few recruiters I respect on linkedin and I have gotten respectable feedback from something like this:

A. although the salary range listed on your posting is for CO and I reside in FL, my salary expectation would fall within the middle-other companies I am interviewing with for similar roles are offering similar salaries, HOWEVER--I can be somewhat negotiable. I am looking forward to speaking with the HM and learning more about the role/daily tasks, I will also take into consideration the compensation package as a whole should an offer be extended.

B: No salary range is listed and they decline to tell me:
I am currently interviewing for this same job title with other orgs. plus I have researched the market data for my geo area and a fair salary based on this info is X dollars per year, However, I would interested to hear the range your org. has budgeted per year. Also, I can be somewhat negotiable. I am looking forward to speaking with the HM and learning more about the role/daily tasks, I will also take into consideration the compensation package as a whole should an offer be extended.
