Suo Gân: A Welsh Lullaby

Suo Gân
Hush, my dear one,
Sleep serenely,
Now, my lovely
Slumber deep.

Mother rocks you,
Humming lowly,
Close your eyes now
Go to sleep.

Angels hover,
Ever nearer,
Looking on your
Smiling face.

I will hold you,
Close enfold you
Close your eyes now
Go to sleep.

Lovely darling,
I will guard you
Keep you from all
Woe and harm.

Slowly, gently,
I will rock you,
Resting sweetly,
On my arm.

May you slumber,
E’er so softly,
Dream of visions
Wondrous fair.

I will hold you,
Close enfold you.
Close your eyes now
Go to sleep.

May you slumber,
E’er so softly,
Dream of visions
Wondrous fair.

I will hold you,
Close enfold you.
Close your eyes now,
Go to sleep.

My dad was a POW in Kobe Japan, having been captured in Hong Kong on Christmas day '41 He quite liked this movie. After the Japanese surrender most of the guards just abandoned the camp, leaving the Japanese commander understaffed. He advised the pows to stay put as obviously the Americans would be arriving soon. US aircraft flew low and dropped the food containers by parachute. A week or so later 3 American soldiers appeared at the gate. When asked how did they get there they said. "We took the train from Yokohama." On of the pows laughed and said, "You Yanks look hungry. Want something to eat?"

This scene of him cycling round the empty barracks mirrors earlier in the film, when he is cycling round his family's empty house. And when he was separated from his mother and tried to surrender to the Japanese, and they just laughed at him! Absolutely stunning movie.

That Colonel was also the Pilot flying the P-51. Groceries from the sky is a perfect metaphor for the over whelming might of the United States. Liberation comes down to sharing a can of condensed milk the sheer poetic genius of it.

Christian Bale has been one of our greatest actors.

I always felt that this white haired American colonel was a tribute to Lee Marvin (who died the year the film was made)

The saddest scene in this movie, "I can't remember what my mother looks like."

Most child actors in cinema history convince....the best actors of any age become great if they can convince in their roles. Child actors convince because they are hang-up free. Bale for me is one of the finest ever on screen because he..I'll say it again, he is utterly convincing as Jim, such that he brings tears to our eyes. A magnificent performance and a tribute to the director and production team. PS ...when has his "I surrender" ever meant quite as much as in this film.

This kid manages to surprise and confound the soldiers of two distinct armies. When he first encounters the Imperial Japanese and when he first encounters the American troops. I must admit I am tickled a bit at the fact that all these ADULTS, soldiers, just see this little Caucasian kid who seems to have no fear and don't know what to make of him. LOL.

Bale should have gotten the Academy Award for his performance in this movie; as it was, he wasn't even nominated. That's when I stopped watching the Academy Awards. Much like when I found out that my parents had lied to me and that there was no Santa Claus I then realized the the Academy Of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences had its heads so far up their asses that they could monitor their own digestion.

Rather than " I surrender " ... he should have said ... I'm Batman.

SS mirrored the nose of a B29 with the window. He knows a thing or two about telling a story.
