Soft point is more for smaller game animals, hollow points are a bigger exit wound but more clean if you want meat they would be better but don't use hollow points use high grain round load on a medium sized caliber like .243

Just got a Howa Mini 1500 in 7.62x39. The 7.62x39 is a great wee cartridge for hunting small-medium game. I usually use soft points just because they are cheaper where I am.

I used .303 British soft point on a buck at 200 yards, it fragmented and hit the very top and very bottom of the heart along with both lungs

Those Hollow points from Russian surplus aren't very good for expansion, you'd be better off finding some different hollow point Ammo or find someone to reload/load you some with some quality HP bullets. Look up some by big US manufactures

great video, you have a new subscriber here.

Those particular HPs really don't expand hardly at all. Very tough jackets. 130 grain I believe.

At 300+ yards you will need the expansion of the SP hunting round because the HP match bullet may not expand reliably. In 55 years of hunting the only lead I’ve come across in meat was #6 shot in squirrels & ducks.

Was that a legit hollow point or one you made out of an fmj? Lol

Many Russian HP rounds are steel jacketed. Cheaper to produce, but obviously steel won't deform as easily as copper.

I'm curious, why are hollow points necessary for this round?

I thought that hollow points were only used for handguns, because they couldn't achieve high enough velocities for expansion?

Context of game. That would be a good thing

I feel like the conversation should end at the potential to contaminate meat that you intend to consume with lead... but I'm not a hunter, I'm just a fella with a still-functioning nervous system.

7.62x39 hollow point ammo was originally designed to tumble in the body, not expand.

And I thought he is going to show you bullet expansion. Silly me!

Is there such thing as a non-jacketed hollow point?

I call BS. Hollow points explode into fragments from 7.62x39 and soft points hold together better especially the Privi Partisan SP.

Tell that to hollow points that are actually designed to expand

So I am planning on taking it from the rear.

I've heard Russian manufactured hollow points don't even expand most of the time
