This resonates with me so much. I relate my clutter issue with my memory. The other day I gave myself permission to cut up some yearbooks & only keep some pictures (reducing a stack of books to a couple of pages). Because of my creativity which sparks my motivation; I used the papers to create collage pages that I can easily & quickly see people who meant a lot to me at that time. I’m pleased with the outcome (& reducing quantity of clutter).

I definitely work best when my desk and work area is clean. There is something about clutter and even items near my elbows that throw me off. However, strategic clutter continues to remind me that something needs to be taken care of. But, if those are not taken care of in a timely fashion, then it just becomes part of the landscape and I keep walking by it.

Definitely it’s reassuring to see others facing the same memory problems. I have depression and anxiety for 24 yrs. I have no recollection of my kids childhood. Strange but real.

This makes absolute sense an matches how my mind works. I know a lots of stuff but without the right cues I have great difficulty with recall sometimes - regardless of how important the "the thing to remember" might be. I will definitely remember the importance, I might even recall why, but what it actually *is*... nope!
I personally use the analogy of an indexing system for a library, I need a list of shelf numbers and subjects or an index to find stuff.

What are your thoughts though in how to be intentional with this? It would be good to see you do something on the use of Rich Pictures or the classical Memory Palace, to create information architectures to improve recall.

I keep my work desk clean but the ones at home aren't, i guess i was shamed enough about this growing up that i make a conscious effort when people are watching ... The problem is that it takes me a lot of time to recover from that stress once I'm home in my space...
