The absolute jankiness of Pikmin 2 is why it's my favorite one. The overpowered purple pikmin, the randomness of caves, the excessive explosions and falling boulders, the absolute b.s. that makes you reset a cave over and over again. It just feels like something Nintendo wouldn't release nowadays, like it's just a little sloppy and unpolished feeling, but that's why I love it.

You should just do my time-tested strategy for caves in Pikmin 2 - park your Pikmin at the entrance of each level and go in fists swinging as Olimar. Sure, it might take a little while getting a punch in and running away until you can get another one in…but that’s what infinite time in caves is for!

Just remember that you don’t have to have your Pikmin called to you when use the hole to jump to the next level. Your Pikmin could be in all four corners of the cave and will teleport to you when you use the hole or geyser.

A good way to scout is to carry one pikman with you by holding A. This will activate all those bs bomb traps. You can scout and make the bombs drop before you risk your pikmin army.
