Yeah in Japan they found when they remove all the trash bin, people won't start throwing around the bin and will carry the trash back home, making the streets cleaner.

yeah as a malaysian, we have trashbins everywhere, but the floor, ground, benches, tables, river, lakes and ocean are a better trashcan according to some people here.

It's not only to maintain a clean environment in public but also to keep the public safe. The first movement to remove trash bins happened in 1995 after the Tokyo subway terrorism.

My toddler once warned my mother in law not to litter while we were in a car and i just smile. I think it's hard to change elders but new generation start to change. Hope for a better Malaysia. 😊

As a Malaysian, I went to Japan.
All the countries I've been to, Australia, Belgium, Korea and Thailand
Japan has one of the or if not THE kindest people and the cleanest street.
Although I feel a little insignificant cause the outfit they wear are absolute branded stuff. Like everytime I walk in the streets of Tokyo, I feel like I'm walking around Fashionistas.

This is actually so true, when I enter Japan, the first thing I notice is that Narita Airport have less trashcans then KLIA, and when I was at Tokyo.. I don't see a lot of trashcans in the capital unlike KL where every corner has trashcans.

But what amazes me is me is that even with less trashcans.. Japan is cleaner then Malaysia even though Malaysia has many trashcans.. I heard that Japanese people put their trash in their pockets or bags then throw the trash in their trashcans at home instead of littering... every country should learn from Japan like discipline and cleanliness

There are no public trash bins in Japan because it’s a holdover/precaution from the 1995 sarin gas attacks. Before the sarin gas attacks, Japan had many public trash cans.
