It’s not all doom and gloom. Square Enix Japan will remain unaffected, and the push towards multiplatform will be a good thing in the long term.

Gaming is a luxury that less and less people will be able to afford as prices spiral out of control on everything else.

Extremely bummed about the layoffs. I hope they bounce back ASAP

Final Fantasy should be everywhere. When they lock it to one platform it limits the growth for the series, as not every gamer is just on one platform. You stagnate your audience when it’s limited from the get go.

So many people think Sqaure’s problems are with Sony, FF7 & FF16, spoiler alert.. it’s not. Square Enix has a huge catalog and a lot of those non-FF games have been duds. I do think that Square Enix needs to be on all platforms either way. Missing that PC launch is massive.

Literally every single company is going to have to adapt to the insane cost of living crisis. People are cancelling subscriptions, staying in, cutting back on entertainment etc.

And if the outcome is companies across the board cut jobs (not just video game companies) then in aggregate sales will fall more as more people who tended to have disposable income won't have money.

In short the snake is eating its tail and i don't think it's going to get better any time soon.

actually, the 7R team stayed mostly intact. and it will probably be the same for part 3.
the heads mentioned keeping the same staff greatly accelerated the production of rebirth due to specific skills and established workflow.
go figure.

I'll remain a Final Fantasy fan to the bitter end.

if ff16 was released on pc alongside ps5 on day one, it would sell very well and performance would have been better. They should release remake part 3 on pc day one too

Hope the third upcoming FFvii remake game won’t be affected by the layoffs.

Good news is if they’re sticking with Unreal as their primary engine going forward, it’s quite scaleable. Hopefully that means the scope of games that are designed with the Switch 2 in mind don’t take too big of a hit.

We're almost 4 years into the PS5/Xbox Series generation and I think it's safe to say, the jump to 4k has not been a good thing for the industry.
It makes these games cost way too much to make for slightly prettier versions.
Use that horsepower for something else, like physics engines.

Just please dear god... i wanna see the Remake trilogy end with a bang with the same quality of Remake and Rebirth. If this impacts Part 3 in a way that downgrades the experience or rushed moments due to development costs i will be extremely sad. This project is a once in a lifetime experience for me and many people arround the world. FF7 means SO MUCH to me i don't wanna see it being destroyed after all these years with this amazing project. I hope for the best and every single dev who worked and is still working on this trilogy i don't have any words to express my joy over the years thanks to the FF7 Remake Project.

I personally think FFIX remake would be a good testing ground for a switch 2 FF release. It’s stylized, and would be pretty close to the og (hopefully). And I would just love FFIX remake on the switch.

They'd make more money if...I know this is gonna sound crazy...if they sold their games on fucking PC.
Just compare how many people even own a PS5 vs how many have PCs.
They have only themselves to blame.

I do believe that inflation is playing a significant role in this issue. The rising inflation rates have led to an increase in the cost of living, putting video games kind of on the back burner. That said, with video games becoming the back burner due to unaffordability, we're also seeing impacts to people's ability to even have leisure time to sit down and enjoy gaming because of needing to work more these day's to just keep up, the backlogs be crazy these days for most.

I don't understand why they wouldn't release FF VII Rebirth and FF XVI on multiple platforms.

Yosuke Matsuda was the worst thing to happen to SE. The only good thing he did was approve 14 2.0. Kiryu has a LOT of heavy lifting to do to fix the absolutely insane decisions of his predecessor. How stupid shit like foamstars, forspoken, the KH mobile games and those NFT games got approved without Matsuda getting crucified by the board (and stockholders) still baffles me

I'll be waiting for the steam release on all new ff7 remake titles, I will never buy a new console again just to play 1 game.. and have the next chapter be released on PS5 ...

even if xbox is not doing great, that still is a market. the strategy is to reach as much sales as possible, leaving one market is not wise decission
